Researchers have created temperature- and light-responsive microcapsules, combined them with UV ink designed for high-speed printing, and developed a portable smartphone detection system capable of confirming authenticity. These microcapsules hold functional materials that respond to environmental conditions, generating optical signatures that are hard to replicate with traditional printing techniques.

      Durability was another key focus in the design. The researchers report that nanotechnology-based linkers reinforce the polymer capsules, ensuring the labels remain stable under heat and humidity. The ink is free of volatile organic solvents, making it suitable for both screen and inkjet printing while remaining feasible for mass production. Even after extensive cold-storage testing, the labels maintained over 83% color fastness, indicating resilience in demanding supply chain conditions.

During trials, the system achieved an accuracy rate of nearly 97.5%, even when differentiating between authentic labels and convincing counterfeits.
