Meta introduces a separate Seller app for Facebook Marketplace featuring AI-enhanced listings.

Meta has introduced Seller, a dedicated iOS application designed specifically for frequent sellers on Facebook Marketplace. This app provides essential tools for managing listings, communicating with buyers, and monitoring sales performance all in one place. Available for free on the App Store for U.S. users aged 18 and above, the app automatically syncs with existing Marketplace listings, messages, and sales history. Its launch aligns with the tenth anniversary of Marketplace, a platform that currently features 430 million listings worldwide each month.

The standout feature of Seller is its AI-enhanced listing creation. Sellers can upload photos, and Meta's AI will automatically generate the title, description, recommended price, and category, simplifying what was previously a lengthy process to just a quick review before publishing. There’s also a bulk listing option, which allows sellers to post several items simultaneously, and a consolidated inbox that organizes all buyer communications by item to prevent any message thread from getting lost between the main Facebook app and the new application.

Additionally, Seller provides a performance dashboard that displays views, clicks, message threads, and completed sales. This feature equips regular sellers with analytical data similar to what e-commerce platforms like eBay and Etsy have provided for years, which was previously missing from Marketplace. Currently, the app is exclusive to iOS, with a web version being developed for users who download it, and testing is ongoing for an Android release. Selling via social media platforms has become a lucrative revenue source for an increasing number of individuals, and Meta is hoping that having a dedicated app will keep its most active sellers from moving to competitors such as TikTok Shop and Whatnot.

The Seller app launch coincides with a wider range of updates for Facebook announced the same day. Meta is rolling out Facebook Verified, a free badge confirming the legitimacy of a profile via selfie verification, which will appear on Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and profile pages starting Monday. The company is also piloting a full-screen video feed reminiscent of TikTok, which will greet users as they open the Facebook app, beginning in video-centric international markets later this year, with a potential U.S. introduction in 2027.

For Meta, the hope is that Marketplace's enormous scale, boasting over a billion active users and a decade of established purchasing behaviors, can compete with specialized commerce platforms if the seller experience improves. The ongoing transition toward AI-driven commerce is changing how people buy and sell online, and Meta is positioning Marketplace as a place where AI handles the cumbersome task of listing while sellers concentrate on sourcing and shipping. Whether this standalone app is sufficient to retain key sellers who now have alternatives remains to be seen in the coming year.
