The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra arrives featuring an improved display, a larger battery, and a $100 increase in price.
Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the latest premium book-style foldable device in a range that has now expanded to three models. The Ultra is priced starting at $2,099.99, with pre-orders beginning today and general availability slated for August 7. It comes in Violet Shadow, Graphite, and Cream, along with a Samsung.com exclusive Green Shadow variant.
The Fold 8 Ultra is the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, maintaining the tall, narrow design that has characterized Samsung's Fold series since its inception. In contrast, the new standard Fold 8 opts for a shorter, wider silhouette. This distinction allows Samsung to reserve high-end specifications for the Ultra model, while the regular Fold 8 offers a more accessible option for a broader audience.

The Ultra continues with an 8-inch main display, identical in size to the Fold 7, but now features a resolution upgrade to 2,504 by 2,256 from 1,968 by 2,184, elevating pixel density from 368ppi to 422ppi. It features a QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz, supported by Samsung’s Vision Booster technology for enhanced visibility outdoors. Peak brightness reaches 3,000 nits, an increase of 400 nits compared to the Fold 7, and the display incorporates a low-reflection finish to reduce glare.
Despite the sharper display, Samsung claims the Ultra is its thinnest Fold to date, measuring 4.1mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, a slight improvement over the Fold 7’s 4.2mm unfolded measurement. This reduction in thickness is attributed to a new Flex Titanium display structure that combines a titanium-alloy film with a reinforced titanium plate, enhancing crease visibility and improving hinge balance.
The Ultra maintains the same Advanced Armor Aluminum frame and IP48 rating as its predecessor, with the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the back also remaining the same. The 6.5-inch cover screen is carried over from last year with the same resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate, now fortified with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 for greater durability.
