Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, its newest flagship smartwatch tailored for outdoor enthusiasts and fitness aficionados. This model enhances the previous year's Galaxy Watch Ultra with improved hardware, new sports tracking capabilities, and an expanded array of AI-driven health features. It also marks the debut of Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, which Samsung claims enhances performance and provides more precise GPS tracking.

Instead of completely redesigning the Ultra, Samsung has prioritized enhancements in critical areas for users. The brand promises increased battery life, a brighter display, superior durability, and wider health tracking options, all while making the watch slimmer and more comfortable for extended wear.

Hardware improvements emphasize battery, display, and outdoor tracking

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 features an 800mAh battery, which is a 35 percent upgrade from its predecessor, paired with the new Snapdragon Wear Elite processor. Samsung states that this integration boosts speed, efficiency, and GPS accuracy. Additionally, the watch incorporates a 5,000-nit Super AMOLED display, making it the brightest Galaxy Watch to date, thus improving visibility in bright outdoor conditions. Despite the enhanced battery capacity, Samsung has reduced the thickness of the watch by 12 percent compared to the prior model.

Samsung is also introducing new activity-specific functionalities. The Trail Run2 feature offers elevation tracking, climbing progress, and terrain analysis, whereas Nutrition Alert estimates sweat loss and suggests hydration during runs. For divers, the watch is now certified with IP69K, 10ATM, and EN13319 ratings, enabling it to automatically log dive depth, duration, and water temperature. Samsung plans to introduce more advanced diving tools, developed in collaboration with Mares, later this year via a dedicated application.

New AI features enhance Samsung Health

In addition to the hardware enhancements, Samsung is launching several AI-driven health tools across both the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9.

The updated software includes features such as Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index, Vitals monitoring, and Sleep Apnea detection. Samsung states that these tools analyze biometric data collected by the BioActive sensor to offer personalized recommendations for sleep, heart health, activities, and recovery, rather than just displaying raw metrics. The company mentions that the algorithms were created based on clinical research conducted with universities and medical institutions.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 will come in a 47mm size with Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray finishes. It is priced at $699.99, with pre-orders starting on July 22 and retail availability beginning on August 7.
