Do you remember when Google Voice was simply a free number to evade spam calls? It has evolved significantly since then, and today it’s making a major advancement: allowing Gemini to quietly join your calls and take notes for you.
How does AI note-taking operate on calls?
The “Take notes for me” feature, which is already well-liked on Google Meet, is now being introduced to Voice. During any active call, you can select Notes to begin recording and transcribing the conversation. All participants on the call will hear an audio notification indicating that the call is being recorded and processed by AI, ensuring there’s no misunderstanding regarding consent.

After the call concludes, Gemini provides you with a clear summary including key points and action items, along with the complete transcript and recording, all within the Voice app. Additionally, you’ll receive an email with a link to the notes, ensuring everything is captured.
Google
In terms of privacy, your notes and recordings are accessible only to you. If other participants activate the feature, they will receive their own individual copies. Currently, the feature works in English and requires a Voice Standard or Premier subscription.
Is a Workspace subscription now necessary to use Voice?
Google is now opening standalone Voice Starter and Standard plans to anyone with a Gmail account, without the need for a Workspace subscription. If you operate a small business or a side gig, you can now access unlimited calls, texting, and premium features without having to purchase an entire Workspace suite.
For the time being, this offer is limited to the US, though other countries are anticipated to follow soon. To make it more appealing, Google is providing a 50% discount on the Voice Standard plan for the first six months, reducing the cost to $10 per month. This includes full access to the new AI note-taking feature as well. If your job or side venture involves making numerous calls, this is an upgrade that's difficult to pass up, especially at half price.
