Samsung has introduced a new line of OBLYX OLED panels, set to debut in your gaming laptops shortly.
Samsung Display has launched OBLYX, its inaugural OLED brand specifically for gaming laptops, aiming to bolster its presence in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the PC market. This announcement was made at Bilibili World 2026 (BW2026) in Shanghai, marking Samsung Display’s first participation in China’s largest gaming and anime convention.
Instead of revealing a new display technology, Samsung is establishing a distinct identity for its gaming-oriented OLED panels, akin to the branding seen with processors or graphics cards. This move also indicates the company’s ambitions within China, where the demand for OLED-equipped gaming laptops is rapidly increasing, as reported by Digital Today.
Samsung focuses on branding as OLED gaming laptops become mainstream
During BW2026, Samsung Display presented a diverse array of devices, including smartphones, gaming laptops, and monitors, all featuring its OLED and QD-OLED panels. However, the highlight was the introduction of the OBLYX brand, which will symbolize Samsung’s premium OLED displays crafted specifically for gaming notebooks.
Samsung Display explained that the name OBLYX is inspired by obsidian, the volcanic glass known for its profound black color, reflecting the capacity of OLED technology to produce true blacks and nearly infinite contrast. The company intends to provide gaming laptop panels in 14-inch, 16-inch, and 18-inch sizes under the OBLYX brand. These displays will support refresh rates of 120Hz, 165Hz, and 240Hz, alongside a 0.2ms response time, 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, and OLED’s characteristic infinite contrast ratio. These features aim to attract gamers looking for smoother gameplay, quicker response times, and enhanced visual quality in both competitive and cinematic games.
Samsung also designed its exhibition booth around Tencent’s forthcoming Honor of Kings: World, enabling attendees to directly compare OLED and LCD gaming experiences and showcase the benefits of higher-end display technology.
China’s thriving gaming market is fueling Samsung’s new strategy
The introduction of OBLYX comes as the adoption of OLED technology expands from premium monitors into gaming laptops. Although several laptop manufacturers already provide OLED models, Samsung Display seems to be positioning its panels as a premium offering rather than just another display component.
As noted by Digital Today, China is crucial to this strategy. Market research firm Omdia, referenced by Digital Today, reports that China’s gaming OLED laptop market has seen a compound annual growth rate of 1,449 percent from 2023 to 2025, significantly surpassing the global growth rate of 405 percent. With approximately 680 million gamers, China stands as the largest gaming market worldwide, presenting significant opportunities for premium display technologies.
Samsung Display plans to enhance partnerships with PC manufacturers across Greater China, while also connecting directly with gamers through events like Bilibili World. Though consumers may not directly purchase an “OBLYX laptop,” the branding is expected to become a recognizable quality marker, helping buyers identify notebooks featuring Samsung’s latest gaming OLED panels. As gaming laptops increasingly compete based on display quality along with CPU and GPU performance, Samsung aims for its panels to merit their own brand.
How does it differ from Odyssey?
Samsung’s new OBLYX brand does not replace the Odyssey lineup; rather, the two cater to different markets. Odyssey is a consumer-oriented gaming monitor brand marketed by Samsung Electronics, covering products such as the Odyssey OLED G9.
In contrast, OBLYX serves as a component brand established by Samsung Display for the OLED panels used in gaming laptops from various manufacturers, including ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, and others. By launching OBLYX, Samsung aims to position its OLED panels as a recognizable symbol of quality across different brands, similar to Intel Evo or Dolby Vision, rather than confining the branding to Samsung-produced hardware.
