A recent leak regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 8 indicates that consumers in the US should anticipate a price increase.
A recent report indicates that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will be priced at $2,099 in the US, marking a $100 increase from the previous year's model.
Samsung has announced its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, where new foldable devices are anticipated to be revealed. Recent reports hint that the pricing in Europe might be considerably higher than previous models. Additionally, a new leak suggests a similar trend could occur in the US market.
US customers might face a $100 increase
South Korean publication SEDaily reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 8, also known as the Wide Fold, is expected to be priced at $1,899 for the 256GB version in the US. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the direct upgrade from the Fold 7, may retail for $2,099 for the same storage option, representing a $100 increase over the Fold 7's launch price of $1,999.
This aligns with earlier leaked European prices, which listed the base 256GB Ultra model at €2,199, reflecting a €100 rise from its predecessor. While the SEDaily article does not specify prices for other storage options, a more significant increase is anticipated for those variants.
The price rise is likely linked to the ongoing shortage of memory, but Samsung is reportedly still in the process of “conducting a final review of its pricing plan,” suggesting that the finalized prices could change before the July 22 event.
New AI capabilities and One UI 9.0 may help support the increased cost
In response to the price increase, Samsung is reportedly focusing on software enhancements for the upcoming models. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 are expected to debut with One UI 9.0 and Gemini Intelligence, Google's new AI system capable of performing tasks across multiple applications.
Although the report doesn't provide specific pricing information for the Flip 8, it supports previous claims that the device may utilize a Qualcomm chip in specific areas while relying on Samsung's own Exynos chip elsewhere. As Samsung has not yet officially confirmed these details, it’s advisable to view this information cautiously until the company presents its announcements on July 22.
