Chery introduced what it refers to as the Rhino Battery Safety Program, which is supported by a 10 billion yuan ($1.47 billion) investment in research and development. As part of this initiative, battery enclosures are designed to withstand a 1,500-joule impact from below, significantly surpassing China’s newly established safety minimum by tenfold.
Testing at the cell level includes a simultaneous puncture with 10 pins, resulting in no recorded smoke or ignition, which is essential for a company offering a lifetime warranty against fire damage.
From a manufacturing perspective, the assembly areas are maintained at just 40 dust particles per cubic meter (0.5 micrometers or larger), and a 100-meter magnetic-levitation logistics line transports components through the facility without the risk of friction-related contamination.
Ultimately, it’s the exceptionally high testing and manufacturing standards that support the replacement warranty. The company also notes that its current test fleet of 43,000 vehicles has accumulated over 1.2 billion kilometers without any battery fire incidents (via CarNewsChina).
