Tesla introduces the six-seat Model Y Long Wheelbase in the United States.
The elongated electric SUV offers increased space, enhanced comfort, and can travel up to 325 miles on a charge.
Tesla is providing the Model Y with some additional room. The company has officially introduced the Model Y Long Wheelbase in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, presenting a stretched variant of its top-selling electric SUV that features a three-row, six-seat arrangement aimed at making family road trips significantly more enjoyable.
A larger Model Y prioritizing comfort
The most significant alterations are found within the cabin. Rather than the conventional second-row bench, the new Model Y Long Wheelbase includes heated and ventilated captain’s chairs equipped with powered armrests, and the third row offers heated reclining seats featuring one-touch folding and child-seat anchors. According to Tesla, the revamped interior provides 89 cubic feet of cargo space, sufficient to accommodate luggage even when all six seats are in use.
Tesla has also implemented several practical enhancements to suit the more spacious interior. The company states that the Long Wheelbase version has a larger rear tailgate and bigger windows, improving visibility for passengers in all rows. Additionally, an upgraded airflow system has been designed to maintain a comfortable environment in the three-row cabin during extended trips.
Performance remains impressive as well, with the SUV reaching 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds while boasting an estimated 325 miles of range. Tesla has also refined the vehicle with adaptive damping, staggered tires, enhanced acoustic glass, and a modified suspension system to ensure a quieter, smoother, and more stable ride.
An improved tech experience with more screens and faster charging
The cabin has received several technological upgrades as well. It now features a 16-inch touchscreen at the front, an 8-inch display for rear passengers, a 19-speaker audio system, and enhanced 50W wireless charging pads with active cooling.
Tesla has also included Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and integrated Grok AI within the offering. The Model Y Long Wheelbase Launch Series starts at $61,990 in the U.S., featuring exclusive Launch Series branding, unique interior and exterior finishes, along with 12 months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised). After the initial year, the FSD subscription will cost $99 monthly.
Looking at the bigger picture, this isn't merely an elongated Model Y; it represents Tesla’s response to the increasing demand for spacious, family-oriented electric SUVs that do not sacrifice performance or technology. In a rapidly expanding premium EV market, the additional row of seats could prove to be one of Tesla's primary selling features.

In another context, a stolen Kia has exposed the limitations of connected car technology. Despite knowing the location of a stolen vehicle, regulations prevent real-time sharing of that information, which poses a significant problem for owners seeking recovery. Following a recent case in the UK where a car had three tracking devices yet could not be retrieved, the manufacturer clarified that connected-car technology should not be seen as a "certified security vehicle tracker" (via the BBC).
Scientists from the University of Cambridge have discovered a straightforward method to extend the lifespan of EV batteries without overhauling their design. The research found that applying the right amount of pressure could actually double the life of lithium-ion batteries. This study, published in Nature Energy, concluded that maintaining consistent pressure does not require altering the active materials, electrolyte, or fundamental battery chemistry.
BMW has unveiled the redesigned fifth-generation X5, marking the most significant update for one of its most popular luxury SUVs.
