The Clicks Communicator has just revealed its software, and it does appear to be quite promising.
The keyboard phone is making a comeback, and our initial glimpse at its software has us smiling.
The Clicks team has finally provided us with an early look at the Communicator software, and as a fan of physical keyboards, I am truly thrilled by what I've seen. While we've already been introduced to much of the Communicator's design and hardware in earlier teasers, this is the first time we see the software functioning on a live unit. Honestly, it effectively illustrates why a keyboard-centric phone could still be relevant in 2026.
You requested it, and we have delivered. Here’s your first glimpse of the Clicks Communicator operating on actual, functional hardware! This is a pre-production version, and we're delivering software updates every week. More in-depth analyses will be coming soon. Q4 is still on schedule. Full speed ahead. 👊 https://t.co/jO19U5KcBL— Clicks (@clickskeyboard) June 30, 2026
What is the software experience like?
Upon unlocking the Communicator, the home screen welcomes you with your preferred apps—those you frequently use throughout the day for chatting, checking items off your list, and staying informed.

You can quickly access email or messaging apps, with everything conveniently organized along a side ribbon for easy navigation. It utilizes a modified Niagara launcher, and I really like its appearance on the Clicks Communicator.

Want to include an app in your favorites? Just tap and hold it, mark it, and rearrange the order so your most-used app is at the top.

Another feature I appreciate is the ability to simply start typing to search for any app. The team demonstrated quickly finding Spotify, accessing a favorite artist, and playing a song within seconds. There are also home screen widgets, allowing you to control or dismiss your music without opening the app.
Clicks
When a message arrives, it displays a preview right on the home screen. You can send a quick reply and clear it away, knowing it’s taken care of.
Is the hardware as thoughtful as the software?
I love that the Communicator reintroduces hardware features that many modern smartphones lack. It includes three microphones—one on the top, one on the bottom, and one on the back—working together to deliver clear audio for calls and voice notes. Additionally, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual speakers above and below the display, and a barometric pressure sensor that assists with GPS and weather.

My favorite feature is the fingerprint sensor integrated into a contoured space bar, allowing you to unlock it with your thumb while keeping your hands in typing position. It also supports a physical SIM and a microSD card of up to 2TB.

These units are pre-production models, so adjustments will be made before the Communicator is released in Q4. However, this initial glimpse makes me hopeful. I would certainly be inclined to line up to get this device in my hands.
