While Spotify integrates AI, Deezer will allow users to remix tracks with approval from artists and proper royalties.
Deezer has officially embraced remix culture, while AI doesn't control the aux cord

You've likely come across speedy or slowed-down song edits on TikTok or Instagram reels, as well as new mixes of popular tracks that garner millions of views. Yet, despite this popularity, the original artists often receive no compensation. Deezer aims to change this with its new Remix Lab. This feature, found within the app, allows fans to remix songs with explicit permission from the artists and rights holders. It will initially launch in France through Deezer Club, with plans to expand to other countries in the upcoming months.
A playful approach to remixes
Deezer
According to Deezer, Remix Lab enables users to discover remix contests via Deezer Club or specific artist pages. Fans can then modify participating tracks using built-in tools. Basic adjustments include changing the speed or adding reverb, while more complex alterations can shift genres or styles.
Remixes can be streamed, added to playlists, and shared just like standard tracks on Deezer. Winners of contests will be announced in early September, with victorious remixes showcased in a special Deezer playlist. Prizes include two tickets to a Deezer Purple Door event and artist merchandise. The initial batch of tracks features selections from artists such as Céline Dion, Tiakola, Alonzo, Ronisia, Mosimann, Zaho, and Alain Souchon.
Artists to receive payment
Deezer
Each remix is made with the artist's approval, streams are credited to the original work, and artists earn money for every listen. Remix Lab represents a distinct approach compared to the AI remix initiatives other streaming platforms are currently exploring. YouTube has been trialing AI remix tools, while Spotify has partnered with Universal Music Group on AI-generated covers and remixes from participating artists. In contrast, Deezer has taken a firm stance against AI-generated music in the music streaming landscape.
The company has stated that AI-generated music constitutes a significant portion of daily uploads on its platform, and it has implemented tools to identify AI tracks in playlists.
