The upcoming MacBook Pro is expected to feature OLED and touch support, but it won't include M6 Pro silicon.
Apple anticipates unveiling an updated MacBook Pro later this year; however, Bloomberg reports that it will not come with the next-generation processor. Instead, the highly awaited model will be powered by Pro and Max variants of the existing M5 silicon.
It was commonly believed that the redesigned MacBook, featuring an OLED display and touch-screen capabilities, would also introduce the M6 series processors. However, it seems Apple has significantly altered its silicon strategy.
Reports indicate that the forthcoming M6 processor will only be available in a base model, meaning there will be no M6 Pro, M6 Max, or M6 Ultra options. Apple is instead reverting to a multi-processor approach for the launch of the M7 silicon next year.
OLED could still be a significant enhancement.
The updated MacBook Pro is expected to come in 14-inch and 16-inch models. While details about aesthetic changes are sparse, the display is anticipated to be a standout feature. After years of using mini-LED panels, Apple will transition to OLED panels, offering substantial improvements in color contrast, brightness, and viewing angles.
Another significant modification is the removal of the bucket-shaped notch at the top of the display. The new MacBook Pro will feature a punch-hole design, inspired by the pill-shaped cutout on the iPhone. “The Dynamic Island on the Mac will be centered around a hole-punch-sized cutout for the camera. It’s smaller than the pill-shaped notch found on current iPhones,” the report states.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is already preparing successors to be equipped with the M7-series processor. Notably, the company is also considering an OLED display for the MacBook Air in the future.

If you miss the texture of paper in the digital world, this app creates a textured look for your Mac’s screen.
A paper-like overlay can make extended work sessions feel more comfortable. Most screen comfort tools adjust the color temperature; for instance, Apple’s Night Shift warms the display, often resulting in an orange tint. Paperman offers a unique alternative by adding a subtle paper-like texture to the screen.
This app, available for both Mac and Windows, is designed to make displays resemble paper, matte glass, or an e-ink screen. It softens harsh contrast and diminishes the glossy appearance of modern screens during lengthy reading or writing sessions.

You may need to wait until 2027 for Macs featuring Apple’s latest chips.
If you've been delaying the purchase of a new MacBook Pro due to the imminent arrival of the next generation of Apple Silicon, you may want to adjust your expectations. A report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates that Apple is making a significant shift in its Mac chip roadmap. Instead of releasing a complete lineup of M6 processors like it has in every generation since the original M1, the company is reportedly planning to initially launch only the standard M6 chip. The more powerful Pro and Max variants may not be available until 2027, and they will reportedly not carry the M6 branding at all.
