From handheld devices to monitors, these were the most significant transformations at Computex 2026.

Each year, Computex showcases what’s next on the horizon. Sometimes it’s just another processor with a few extra cores, a laptop that's 200 grams lighter, or a monitor that claims to be faster than its predecessor. However, occasionally a trade show surprises attendees not with a single product but with a complete category that feels revitalized. That's precisely how I experienced Computex 2026.

After days of exploring the show floor, trying various products, conversing with engineers, and getting lost between booths more often than I'd like to admit, one thing became very clear: the most significant developments weren't merely about minor upgrades. They were centered around entire categories finally overcoming old limitations. Monitors became smarter, handheld devices matured, creator laptops gained versatility, and ARM processors began to look like genuine powerhouses rather than just niche options.

Monitors are now addressing real challenges instead of pursuing higher specifications.

For years, gaming monitors focused on increasing numbers, but at Computex 2026, the emphasis shifted towards addressing actual issues and enhancing the versatility of displays. Alienware’s new AW3926QW embodies this mindset. Marketed as the world’s first 39-inch 5K OLED gaming monitor featuring RGB-stripe Tandem OLED technology, it utilizes a specialized four-stack RGB-stripe tandem panel that improves brightness and panel durability while enhancing color purity compared to traditional OLEDs. This monitor allows gamers to experience both stunning visuals and esports-level performance without compromise.

MSI took a different approach with the MPG OLED 322URDX36, proving flexibility might be the next major focus. Equipped with a 5th-generation QD-OLED panel featuring Penta Tandem technology and an RGB Stripe sub-pixel layout, it provides three distinct modes: 4K at 360Hz, 1440p at 520Hz, and an astonishing 1080p at 680Hz. MSI also incorporated thoughtful features like Dark Armor Film to protect the OLED panel, an AI Care Sensor, and peak brightness of up to 1,500 nits, making it one of the smartest displays at the event.

For competitive gamers, ASUS seemed to take the lead with the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace. This 24.5-inch esports-oriented display combines an incredible 540Hz refresh rate with OLED’s rapid response times, effectively removing the traditional trade-off between image quality and competitive edge. ASUS even engraved alignment indicators on the stand, enabling professional players to replicate their exact setup at tournaments down to the millimeter—an ingenious yet subtle feature that emphasizes the monitor's esports focus.

Then there’s the technology supporting these advancements. MediaTek’s new MT9820 attracted attention as the first 5K AI upscaling monitor scaler chip, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA. Instead of merely stretching lower-resolution content, it employs AI processing to intelligently enhance details and sharpen images in real-time, significantly improving the clarity of games and videos on high-resolution displays while paving the way for smarter, AI-augmented monitors in the future. If this is the trajectory for display technology, I'm more than willing to keep staring at screens.

Handheld gaming PCs are evolving into mature devices.

The leading narrative in the handheld gaming sector at Computex 2026 revolved around the silicon driving it. Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme emerged as a notable highlight, showcasing the company's serious commitment to portable gaming. Engineered for handhelds on the Panther Lake architecture and using Intel’s 18A process, it combines a 14-core CPU with Arc B390-class graphics driven by 12 Xe3 cores, bringing features like hardware ray tracing and XeSS 3 with Multi Frame Generation to compact gaming devices. My hands-on experience indicated that Intel is finally establishing itself as a genuine player in the handheld arena.

This silicon powered devices like the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ and Acer Predator Atlas 8, both of which felt impressively refined during my testing. The Atlas distinguished itself with comfortable ergonomics, a vibrant 8-inch 120Hz display, an 89-blade AeroBlade cooling system, and innovative dual-mode triggers that switch between microswitch and analog inputs. Meanwhile, MSI’s latest Claw represents a complete rethinking with enhanced ergonomics, improved software, and a sizable 80Wh battery aimed at addressing one of handheld gaming's biggest challenges.

Even ASUS’ ROG Xbox Ally X20 Anniversary Edition reinforced this sentiment: handheld gaming PCs are no longer experimental contraptions trying to make their mark. With superior silicon, better cooling systems, enhanced ergonomics, and software experiences resembling console usability, the entire category finally feels mature.

Creator laptops are no longer forcing compromises.

At Computex 2026, creator laptops appeared less like cumbersome mobile workstations and more like sleek productivity tools that don’t sacrifice performance. For example, ASUS’s latest ProArt lineup exemplifies this change by combining powerful hardware, stunning OLED displays, and dedicated local AI acceleration capable of handling
