iOS 27 could significantly enhance your iPhone camera app with AI features.
Apple is preparing for its most substantial iPhone software update in years, with the Camera app at the forefront. Bloomberg has previewed the enhancements coming to iOS 27, revealing that the updates go beyond mere cosmetic changes. This will include a complete redesign of how you take, edit, and manage your photographs.
Upcoming modifications to your iPhone camera app
The most notable update is that Siri will be integrated into the Camera app as a distinct mode, placed alongside Photo and Video options. This is a new feature, marking an important upgrade from its current location, which is hidden behind the Camera Control button.
Integrating it directly into the app may encourage more users to utilize it, and Apple appears to be preparing for future devices like smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods.
This function replaces Visual Intelligence, allowing users to aim their camera at any subject and have a third-party AI analyze it or use a Google reverse image search.
The Camera app will also undergo a complete layout overhaul, shifting controls to the top center of the screen. A new Add Widgets panel will enable you to replace the default shortcut row with professional tools such as depth adjustments, Night mode, and timers.
AI photo editing capabilities are on the way for your images
As reported, Apple will unveil two new AI editing features—Reframe and Extend—within the Photos app. Reframe alters the perspective of a photo post-capture, while Extend uses AI to fill in missing sections of an image; for instance, if part of a building is cropped out, it can generate the missing details.
Additionally, Apple is experimenting with natural language photo editing, where you can communicate editing requests via voice or text, and Siri will execute the changes. However, this feature may not be included in the initial iOS 27 release.
