“Android's best attempt at competing with the iPad.”

      **Pros:**

      - Excellent tablet performance

      - Surprisingly effective thermal management

      - Consistent battery life

      - Clean metal design

      - High-resolution 144Hz display

      - Outstanding keyboard case

      **Cons:**

      - OLED display is a significant drawback

      - Workstation mode requires improvement

      - Unsightly camera protrusion

      - Not officially available in the US

      - HyperOS includes unnecessary bloat

      - Accessories are pricey

For years, I've maintained a standard disclaimer whenever asked about Android tablets: “It’s decent for an Android tablet.” This little note of caution helped clarify shortcomings like sluggish apps that look awkward on oversized screens, mediocre processing power, and software that often resembles a phone in an oversized case. So, when the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro arrived, I was ready to use my usual disclaimer.

But I won't keep you guessing; it never needed to be said. This tablet is a true heavyweight, aimed directly at the iPad Air and the Galaxy Tab S series, and it shifts the conversation about value with its competitive pricing. Equipped with Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite, it can swiftly handle a variety of mobile tasks.

Enclosed in a sturdy aluminum chassis, it feels genuinely high-end, defying its price tag. The audio quality is decent, the display is vibrant and smooth, and it boasts several unique features. There's always a catch, and we will cover it, but for the first time in a long while, I'm reviewing an Android tablet without a sense of apology.

The Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro is, quite simply, an enormous amount of tablet for around $600, depending on where you buy it from. The Snapdragon 8 Elite provides laptop-level performance, and its 11.2-inch 3.2K 144Hz display is so good that I often forgot it wasn't the priciest screen available. Its 9,200mAh battery is highly impressive, lasting over 15-16 hours on a single charge, and the overall build quality is that of a premium device that surpasses expectations.

So, what’s the catch? The display is an LCD, not an OLED. However, there’s a silver lining: it doesn’t cause PWM flickering that can bother sensitive eyes, although it doesn’t deliver the deep blacks of Samsung's OLED screens. Moreover, while HyperOS 3 has evolved into something quite impressive with a more desktop-like multitasking interface and cross-platform capabilities attempting to rival Apple,

It’s true that Android’s app ecosystem occasionally falters in scaling. Nevertheless, this does not detract from the overall performance. If you seek unfiltered power and exceptional battery life without the high costs associated with an iPad Pro, the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro stands out as one of the best value tablets available today, regardless of platform. Just be prepared to spend more if you want that sleek keyboard.
