For a few unusual hours, the Sonos app essentially vanished from Apple's App Store ecosystem, preventing users from downloading or updating it on their iPhones and Macs. Given Sonos' recent software issues, the timing couldn't have been more unfortunate. Users first observed that the app's listing in the App Store had completely disappeared. Accessing the direct App Store link led to an error page indicating that the content could not be found, while manual searches yielded no results.
Simultaneously, Sonos acknowledged the problem on its system status page, alerting users that they might face difficulties in downloading or updating the app while engineers worked to resolve the issue. The company did not clarify the cause of the disappearance, which only added to the confusion.
Sonos didn’t exactly need another app-related problem
Usually, a temporary App Store outage might not attract much attention. However, Sonos is still dealing with the backlash from its widely criticized app redesign of 2024, which frustrated long-time users due to bugs, missing features, and inconsistent performance. That problematic launch tarnished consumer trust in a company that was once known for delivering polished software experiences.
This latest incident quickly raised concerns online, particularly as Sonos has reportedly been preparing for another significant app update. Earlier reports indicated that the company was working on a sleeker interface and new iPhone Lock Screen controls enhanced by Live Activities. For a brief moment, some users worried that something had gone seriously wrong behind the scenes.
The app is back, but uncertainties linger
Fortunately, the outage was short-lived. After several hours, the Sonos app returned to the Apple App Store, and the company’s status page later confirmed that all systems were back up and running. The associated account outage also seems to have been resolved.
Still, this incident highlights an uncomfortable reality for Sonos: even minor software issues are viewed through the lens of last year's disastrous app transition. Until the company can fully restore user confidence, any outage is likely to feel more significant than it truly is.

The LiDAR sensor on your iPhone may soon enable you to see around corners
MIT researchers have demonstrated that affordable, consumer-grade LiDAR can detect objects concealed around corners. Researchers from MIT Media Lab have discovered an intriguing application for the LiDAR sensor embedded in your iPhone and iPad Pro – it can identify and track objects that are completely outside the camera's field of view. Yes, this means seeing around corners. This kind of imaging, referred to as non-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging, is not a new idea. However, previous demonstrations relied on powerful, expensive lab-grade lasers, which had limited real-world applications.
Recent case leaks for the iPhone 18 series suggest familiar appearances but a thicker design
A new set of leaked protective cases for the iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max has emerged, showing a design very similar to previous leaks. This year, both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are not expected to undergo significant redesigns, maintaining the same unibody aluminum design featuring a large camera island. This was anticipated, as Apple typically retains the same design for at least two years.
I miss when technology had a cheap, plastic, and honest aesthetic
Modern technology looks sleeker and more premium, but older plastic devices possessed a certain charm that went beyond polish: they were straightforward about their nature. While playing retro games on my Anbernic RG353V, I unexpectedly realized I missed gadgets that appeared inexpensive. I’m not referring to poor-quality or broken tech, nor am I making a wistful claim that everything was superior when batteries leaked and screens had limited viewing angles.
