      After the conclusion of The Boys' five-season journey just two days ago, Prime Video is rapidly maintaining the excitement. The trailer for Vought Rising, a prequel spinoff situated in 1950s New York City, has just been released and looks quite promising.

      The series revolves around a youthful and naïve Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) donning his costume for the first time, joining forces with a new group of supes who are convinced they’re divinely gifted. Spoiler alert: they are not!

      The trailer quickly sets the scene. Vought Rising is centered around the formation of the first-ever superhero team, fueled by V-One, which is an early version of Compound V, the substance that grants superpowers to individuals.

      The Sage Grove Center, which you may recall from The Boys season 2, is depicted here in its initial stage, where Vought conducted harsh experiments on psychiatric patients. An unnamed character portrayed by Jorden Myrie is shown being injected with V-One and breaking free from containment.

      This aspect gains significance when considering Vought's Nazi origins, especially in light of who is subjected to experimentation. At the time the V-One was first developed, Vought’s publicly celebrated heroes were predominantly white, whereas their test subjects were Black men. This scenario parallels Isaiah Bradley’s storyline from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where an all-Black unit was used in attempts to replicate the serum that endowed Captain America with powers.

      The cast features Mason Dye as Bombsight, Will Hochman as Torpedo, and Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. Aya Cash makes a return as Clara Vought, also known as Stormfront, who is the concealed Nazi antagonist from season 2 and co-leads the series alongside Ackles.

      Many fans felt dissatisfied with season 5, which spent a considerable amount of time paving the way for Vought Rising instead of successfully wrapping up its own narrative. Soldier Boy took center stage throughout the season only to end up back in isolation, leaving his character unresolved. It seemed like a bait-and-switch.

      The cancellation of Gen V, the intriguing college-centered spinoff that never reached its third season, intensified this discontent. Thus, it is sensible to approach Vought Rising with caution. Nevertheless, the trailer stands out on its own merit.

      The 1950s visual style is striking, the production appears notably stylish, and there’s a sense of the renewed identity that this universe desperately requires. Vought Rising is one of two intended spinoffs, with the other being The Boys: Mexico, starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, which is still in the early stages of production.

      Vought Rising is slated for release on Prime Video sometime in 2027, and its reception could influence the future trajectory of this entire universe.
