Microsoft is addressing a Windows 11 search problem that has likely caused you frustration numerous times.
Bing may finally cease to appear before your local files in Windows Search
Microsoft
Windows 11 has its share of irritations embedded in the operating system, but I often find Search to be one of the most exasperating aspects. You use it to locate an installed application or a file stored on your PC, and Windows seems to present the appropriate result.
However, when you click it, Microsoft Edge opens a Bing search page instead. While it is a minor issue, it undermines the reliability of Windows Search for basic local inquiries. Now, in the most recent insider experimental build, Microsoft appears to be tackling this problem.
Windows Search might stop prioritizing the web first
Microsoft is currently testing a modification aimed at enhancing Windows 11 Search to display local results more effectively. In the Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26300.8493, the company indicates that the Windows Search Box is receiving relevance enhancements, starting with apps and files.
Microsoft
According to the release notes from Microsoft, files and apps should "more reliably appear ahead of web suggestions" when they are a better match for the user's input. Web results will not be eliminated, but they should no longer be favored as often when the solution is already available on the device.
Windows Latest reports that this change is already noticeable in some preview builds. During its testing, Windows 11 showed local files and apps above web suggestions, even when the search query contained errors. Microsoft also states that additional relevance improvements are planned for future builds.
Microsoft is gradually refining Windows 11
This is not the only fix for Windows 11 that Microsoft has been testing recently. The company is also working on several smaller enhancements aimed at addressing long-standing complaints, such as improved taskbar functionality, automatic driver cleanup, better memory efficiency, faster app launches through a low-latency mode, quicker right-click and Quick Settings actions, and enhancements to File Explorer.
While none of these fixes will instantly transform the Windows 11 experience, they could contribute to a less frustrating daily use.

Kansas City Public Schools is transitioning to Apple hardware, with MacBook Neo laptops and iPads set to replace a mixed fleet of Windows PCs and Chromebooks.
The competition for classroom laptops has received a substantial test. Kansas City Public Schools has already procured over 4,500 MacBook Neo units for students in 8th grade and higher, introducing Apple's new affordable Mac into schools on a scale surpassing just a pilot program. The district plans to gradually phase out over 30,000 existing devices. This offers Apple a clear victory in the education sector, as more affordable classroom laptops gain competitiveness, and provides school IT teams with a reason to reassess the traditional divide between Windows, Chromebook, and Mac platforms.
