Google showcases audio glasses designed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
Created in partnership with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, the smart glasses are set to be released later this year.
At the I/O 2026 Developer Conference, Google unveiled the first look at the upcoming Gemini-powered Intelligent Eyewear. Operating on the Android XR platform, these glasses have been co-developed with Samsung and Qualcomm, while the design elements stem from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. This collaboration is akin to Meta’s efforts with its own smart glasses, which began with a partnership with Ray-Ban and later incorporated Oakley.
Google refers to these as audio glasses, as they lack a built-in screen, and most interactions will occur through voice and audio commands. The front of the smart glasses features two cameras for image capturing and understanding the environment. Users can ask questions based on what Gemini detects through the cameras.
For instance, simply looking at a restaurant will allow you to inquire about its reviews and get directions. Navigation plays a vital role in these smart glasses, with Google stating that users will be able to receive turn-by-turn directions via natural language interactions. Furthermore, these glasses will facilitate text messaging, enable phone calls, and provide summarized messages.
Another intriguing feature showcased by Google at the I/O 2026 event was the ability to capture and edit photos in real-time. After taking a picture, users can call upon Gemini to apply creative edits. This editing process is managed by the Gemini Nano Banana engine, and once completed, a preview of the edited image will be sent to your mobile phone or companion smartwatch.
Additionally, these smart glasses will assist with real-time translations and task management in the background. Thanks to their smart capabilities, users can ask Gemini to place food or grocery orders. Once the task is done, a confirmation step will finalize the order.
Moreover, these glasses will be compatible with third-party applications, such as booking a cab through Uber, and future support for additional applications and services is expected. Notably, despite being built on the Android XR platform, these smart glasses by Gentle Monster and Warby Parker will function seamlessly with iPhones.
Google and Xreal's Project Aura smart glasses are also set to launch later this year, featuring built-in displays and the capability to run Android applications.
Google is developing a range of smart glasses, with the first utilizing the Android XR platform created by Samsung anticipated to arrive around July. The market is expected to expand rapidly. During the I/O 2026 Developers Conference, Google displayed a new line of audio glasses designed in collaboration with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
However, the most captivating product is the Xreal Project Aura smart glasses, which offer full hand gesture controls and a mixed reality view for Android apps accessible via the Play Store. Initially revealed in December 2025, Xreal announced earlier today that the Project Aura smart glasses are set to be available for purchase in 2026.
