Microsoft's latest Surface PCs are becoming more intelligent, more expensive, and surprisingly adept at maintaining confidentiality.
Microsoft has recently unveiled its latest generation of Surface series laptops specifically designed for business use. The new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop for Business models are equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra Series 3 processors, enhanced on-device AI capabilities, improved security features, and other enhancements to suit business needs.
What does it include, and what are the prices?
The new Surface Laptop for Business is available in various sizes. The 13-inch Surface Laptop for Business starts at $1,499, with configurations of 16GB and 24GB currently available, while an 8GB version is set to launch later this year starting at $1,299.99. The larger 13.8-inch and 15-inch models of the Surface Laptop for Business begin at $1,949.99.
Microsoft
The new Surface devices will feature Intel’s advanced Core Ultra X7 chipset, which is claimed to offer up to 35% greater graphics performance compared to a MacBook Air with an M5 chip, along with over 90% faster performance than the Surface Laptop 5. These benchmarks are set by Microsoft, so real-world performance will need to be assessed, particularly regarding battery life, heat management, and prolonged workloads.
The Surface Pro for Business, with its 13-inch display, also starts at $1,949.99, maintaining the familiar 2-in-1 design that includes touch capabilities, pen support, a keyboard, voice input, on-device AI processing, and optional 5G connectivity.
A Focus on Privacy
One noteworthy feature is the optional integrated privacy screen available on some 13.8-inch Surface Laptop for Business models. Microsoft describes it as a software-controlled visual privacy filter with anti-glare properties, allowing users to enable it with a single keystroke rather than relying on a physical screen protector.
While this feature may seem mundane, it could be extremely valuable for those aiming to secure sensitive information in public spaces such as airports or cafés.
Microsoft
In its announcement, the company noted that each new Surface for Business device is classified as a Secured-core PC, with firmware updates provided via Windows Update. Microsoft is also emphasizing memory-safe firmware efforts through Project Mu, Rust-based drivers, and hardware-rooted security.
Regarding AI, Microsoft positions Surface as a reference platform for Windows AI APIs and Foundry, offering applications such as real-time meeting transcription, writing assistance, certain on-device image generation, and live translation. Some functionalities may require specific configurations, subscriptions, or internet connectivity.
Designed for IT Professionals
Microsoft is also highlighting the devices' repairability. Nearly every major component in the Surface for Business lineup can be replaced, featuring less adhesive, more efficient service guides, and part availability through commercial channels. The Surface Laptop and Surface Pro models are also constructed with recycled aluminum for their enclosures.
Similar to ASUS’ flagship business laptop, Microsoft aims to make Surface for Business feel secure, premium, and ready for AI integration.
