Google's latest Gemini Spark AI agent can take care of your tasks while you manage your life.
Google has finally created an AI assistant that continues to operate even when you step away.
Google recently unveiled Gemini Spark at Google I/O 2026, and it could be the most genuinely beneficial AI feature the company has introduced to date. Unlike most AI tools that require your constant attention, Gemini Spark takes a task and executes it autonomously, managing multiple steps in the background without your supervision.
The primary advantage of Gemini Spark is that it operates on dedicated virtual machines, meaning you don’t need to keep your laptop or computer on after you assign a task. You can close it and step away from your workspace while Gemini Spark carries out the task in the background.
What distinguishes Gemini Spark from other AI tools?
Gemini Spark utilizes the latest Gemini 3.5 model and Google’s Antigravity harness. These technologies enable Gemini Spark to handle longer tasks independently in the background.
When you request a task from Gemini Spark, it decomposes it into manageable steps, coordinates across your applications, and processes everything in the background, allowing you to disengage. You simply give it a task and can walk away.
It can simultaneously access information from your emails, documents, and chats to maintain a comprehensive perspective. It can draft content, utilize custom "skills" that you upload, update files in real time as new details arise, and manage follow-up tasks for you.
Currently, Gemini Spark is compatible only with Google’s proprietary applications (such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, etc.), but there are plans to extend its functionality to integrate third-party tools in the future, offering users greater flexibility.
When will it be accessible?
Google is initially rolling out Gemini Spark to selected testers, followed by a beta release for Google AI Ultra subscribers. The company has introduced a new AI Ultra plan priced at $100 monthly to enhance accessibility, while also reducing its premium AI Ultra plan's price from $250 to $200 per month.
Later this year, Spark will also be integrated directly into Google Chrome as a browser agent, and Google is developing a specific home for agents on Android named Android Halo.
It is still early in the process, and Google has been cautious about this. However, if Gemini Spark fulfills even half of what was demonstrated, it might just be the AI assistant that generates real excitement.

At Google I/O 2026, the focus is heavily on empowering users to create. Launched last year via Google Labs, Pomelli has already aided millions of businesses in producing professional product images, social campaigns, and advertisements. Today, Google is introducing a suite of new agentic features that expand the tool's capabilities beyond social media.
Google’s AI subscription plans are also being updated with a new $100 tier, price reductions, and new features across all subscription levels.
