Netflix now has its own AI studio, and AI-generated content is on its way to your feed whether you want it or not.
Netflix's confidential AI studio, INKubator, is rapidly expanding, with intentions to create animated short films utilizing generative AI.
Netflix has invested years in AI technology to keep viewers engaged. Developing AI-generated content is the next logical progression.
The streaming company is hiring for its new internal studio, INKubator, that will focus on producing animated shorts and specials through generative AI (according to TheVerge).
This initiative has not been formally announced by Netflix; it came to light through a series of job postings for producers and CGI artists that provide insight into the company's direction.
What is INKubator, and who leads it?
According to LinkedIn profiles, INKubator quietly started in March 2026 under the leadership of Serrena Iyer, who has held strategic and operational positions at DreamWorks Animation, MRC Studios, and A24 Films. This isn’t a team assembled for a trivial experiment.
The job postings characterize the studio as an innovative, creativity-focused entity centered entirely on generative AI. Its long-term technological strategy encompasses generative AI workflows, artist tools, and scalable environments for multiple shows.
Interestingly, INKubator is not Netflix's first AI studio acquisition. Earlier this year, the platform acquired InterPositive, an AI venture founded by actor Ben Affleck, which focuses on AI applications in post-production.
Will AI-generated programming make its way into your Netflix recommendations?
At this point, INKubator appears to concentrate solely on shorts and experimental animated specials, rather than feature-length films. However, the job listings suggest potential aspirations for longer content in the future.
Recently, Netflix introduced a TikTok-like vertical video feature called Clips in its mobile app, currently used for trailers and marketing material. AI-generated shorts could fit seamlessly into this format later on.
Netflix is also enhancing its children's programming, establishing itself as a family-friendly alternative to YouTube. It has rolled out a separate app for kids named Netflix Playground. Generative AI could significantly expedite the production of such content.
Regardless of your feelings about AI-created shows, INKubator indicates that Netflix has already made its decision.
