Netflix has established its own AI studio, and AI-generated content will soon be appearing in your feed, regardless of your preference.
Netflix’s secret AI division INKubator is quickly hiring, aiming to create animated shorts utilizing generative AI.
The streaming powerhouse has dedicated years to employing AI to keep viewers glued to their seats. Now, creating AI-driven content appears to be the logical next step.
The company is expanding an internal studio called INKubator, which focuses on producing animated short films and specials with generative AI, according to TheVerge.
This initiative hasn’t been officially announced by Netflix. It came to light through a series of job postings looking for producers and CGI artists. These postings indicate a clear direction for the company's future.
What is INKubator, and who oversees it?
According to LinkedIn profiles, INKubator launched discreetly in March 2026 and is headed by Serrena Iyer, who has held strategy and operations positions at DreamWorks Animation, MRC Studios, and A24 Films. This is not a roster assembled for a mere trial.
The job advertisements depict the studio as a cutting-edge, creativity-driven operation centered entirely on generative AI. Its long-term technology strategy includes generative AI workflows, artist tools, and scalable multi-show environments.
Notably, INKubator isn't Netflix's first foray into AI studios. Earlier this year, the streaming giant acquired InterPositive, an AI startup founded by actor Ben Affleck, focused on AI in post-production.
Will AI-generated shows make their way into your Netflix recommendations?
For the time being, INKubator appears to concentrate solely on shorts and experimental animated specials, as opposed to feature-length films. However, the job postings suggest potential plans for longer content in the future.
Netflix recently introduced a vertical video feature called Clips in its mobile app, which is currently used for trailers and promotional materials. AI-created shorts could easily fit into that category moving forward.
Netflix has also been pushing into children's programming, aiming to position itself as a family-friendly alternative to YouTube. It has even launched a dedicated kids’ app called Netflix Playground. Generative AI could undoubtedly help in rapidly scaling such content.
Whether or not you are prepared for AI-crafted shows on Netflix, INKubator indicates that the streaming service has already made its decision.
