WhatsApp has launched “Incognito Chat” featuring Meta AI, allowing you to engage in completely private conversations with the assistant. Your messages will not be stored and will disappear when you exit the chat. Meta claims that no one, including Meta itself, can access what you say.
How the private Meta AI chat on WhatsApp will function
Users are turning to AI for personal queries regarding finances, health, and sensitive work issues. Once the feature is available, a new icon will appear in your Meta AI chat that initiates a private, temporary session. Messages will disappear after you close the app or lock your phone.
Meta AI will also forget the entire context of that chat after the session concludes, which means each incognito discussion will start anew. This feature will be rolled out gradually across WhatsApp and the standalone Meta AI app in the upcoming months.
Another upcoming feature is Side Chat, which allows you to privately question Meta AI during group conversations without others being able to see your queries.
Is Meta AI genuinely safe for private conversations?
This is the same Meta AI connected to a tragic incident involving a cognitively impaired man who mistakenly believed the chatbot was a real person and traveled to meet her. Meta has also faced lawsuits from five major publishers claiming that it improperly used millions of books and journal articles to train its Llama model.
