Spotify now invites you to revisit your entire musical journey.
This new feature is a nostalgia trip for your Spotify music collection.
Spotify Wrapped typically provides a quick overview of your yearly music experience. However, Spotify 20 delves much deeper into your history, making it significantly more personal.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Spotify has introduced Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s), a new mobile-exclusive in-app feature that explores your complete listening history on the platform. It reveals your first day on Spotify, the total number of unique songs you've played, your very first streamed track, and your all-time top artist. Additionally, Spotify is offering users an All-Time Top Songs Playlist containing their 120 most-listened-to tracks, complete with play counts.
What does your Spotify listening history reveal about you?
This feature transforms into something akin to a musical diary rather than just a standard statistics overview. Your Spotify account likely remembers the song you played during your college days, the artist you repeatedly listened to following a breakup, the gym playlist you once took far too seriously, and the track you've quietly returned to over the years without even realizing it.
The standout feature may be the first streamed song. This particular stat can evoke a surprising mix of emotions, ranging from nostalgia to embarrassment, or both. A single song can bring forth an old version of yourself quicker than any photo album. Personally, that song was Baba O’Riley by The Who, which had lingered in my mind after I played the 2012 Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
Why is Spotify making this experience so shareable?
Similar to Wrapped, Spotify has made these nostalgic moments easily shareable. Each story comes with a share card that can be saved, sent to friends, or shared online. This experience is accessible on mobile in 144 markets and in 16 different languages. Users can discover it by launching the Spotify app and searching for “Spotify 20” or “Party of the Year(s),” or by visiting Spotify’s 20th anniversary page on mobile.
The 120-track playlist is also somewhat easy to overlook. It appears on the last slide of your Spotify 20 experience, where you'll need to claim it to add it to your library. Spotify has also introduced editorial playlists highlighting significant eras, movements, and cultural changes from the last twenty years. These playlists can be found in the Spotify hub.
