LG's newest luxurious gaming monitor features a 45-inch OLED display that achieves 330Hz at 5K resolution.
LG has launched the UltraGear 45GX950B, an upgraded iteration of last year's 45GX950A ultrawide OLED gaming monitor. Although the new model introduces some enhancements, especially in AI-focused features, the fundamental panel and specifications have not changed significantly.
Same Display, New AI Features
The UltraGear 45GX950B still employs LG’s 3rd Gen WOLED panel, with no transition to the newer Tandem OLED technology. It maintains a 45-inch ultrawide design with a 21:9 aspect ratio, a sharp 800R curvature, and a matte anti-glare finish. The monitor also sustains its 165Hz native refresh rate, offering a dual-mode option that allows for up to 330Hz at a reduced resolution.
Resolution and visual performance remain the same as the previous version. The display provides a resolution of 5120 x 2160, known as "5K2K," 125 PPI pixel density, a response time of 0.03ms, and covers 98.5% of the DCI-P3 color space. HDR support features peak brightness up to 1300 nits in smaller highlights along with VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification.
The main update consists of new AI-enhanced features. LG has incorporated AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization, and AI Sound. These tools aim to improve content quality, automatically adjust display settings based on the content displayed, and enhance audio output by differentiating between dialogue, effects, and background sounds. However, similar features in LG’s other monitors have sometimes demonstrated limited effectiveness in practical use.
Why This Update Matters
Instead of offering a significant hardware upgrade, LG seems to be concentrating on gradual enhancements and software-driven improvements. This aligns with a larger trend in the display industry, where manufacturers are integrating AI features to set their products apart without making substantial changes to the core hardware.
The addition of “Evo” branding positions the 45GX950B within LG’s newer collection of high-resolution displays, although the panel itself remains the same as that of the preceding generation.
What It Means for Buyers
For prospective buyers, the UltraGear 45GX950B provides essentially the same performance as the earlier 45GX950A, along with the added AI features. This makes it more of a minor refresh than a complete upgrade. Current owners of the previous model are unlikely to find a substantial reason to upgrade. However, for new buyers, the B model could be more appealing if the price is comparable, as it offers new features without compromising any core specifications.
There are some compromises, though. The built-in speakers have been reduced from 10W to 7W, but connectivity options remain robust, featuring DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with power delivery, and multiple USB ports.
Availability and What’s Next
The UltraGear 45GX950B is listed on LG’s Japan website and is currently available for pre-order, with shipping anticipated to start on June 11, 2026. It is priced at ¥259,800 (approximately $1,660 before taxes), with a higher initial price also referenced.
Details about global availability are still pending. If the pricing aligns closely with the previous model, LG may gradually phase out the 45GX950A and position the 45GX950B as its direct successor in the lineup.
