TECNO has introduced the CAMON 50 series with AI, IP69K water resistance, and 60x zoom.
TECNO has introduced a new series of smartphones CAMON 50 in Russia, focusing on three key aspects that currently define demand in the mass segment: advanced camera capabilities, a noticeable set of AI features, and enhanced body protection.
At the presentation, the company aimed to show that this is not just a fresh update of the lineup, but an attempt to gather in one device tools that are truly used daily - from capturing dynamic scenes to processing content, searching for products, and navigating through personal notes. The flagship of the series is the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra 5G, alongside which the basic model CAMON 50 is announced, with an overall emphasis that even in an affordable smartphone, the set of intelligent services can now be very broad.
The main technological thesis of the presentation was the camera, designed for shooting in complex and constantly changing conditions. TECNO specifically emphasized that the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G is capable of not only capturing fast motion but also handling sharp lighting changes, shaking, and body contamination. This was practically demonstrated on a test site with buggies: journalists and bloggers were invited to capture the movement of cars on rough terrain using the FlashSnap mode and up to 5X zoom. Against this backdrop, the company also promoted the IP69K protection level: after an extreme test drive, the devices could indeed be simply rinsed with water, after which they continued to operate without failures. For the mass user, this is an important signal: the manufacturer positions the novelty as a device not only for beautiful staged shots but also for real everyday scenarios.
The second demonstration area was dedicated to the telephoto and zoom - TECNO is betting not only on "bare" zoom but also on post-processing. The AI Auto Zoom feature offers several cropping options after shooting, meaning it translates a random shot into a more refined composition without user involvement. This fits well into the overall trend: smartphones are increasingly not just capturing images but offering ready-made solutions, saving time on manual processing.
A separate block of the presentation was dedicated to Tecno AI, which in the CAMON 50 series includes over 80 functions. The company has grouped them into 11 categories and clearly aims to show that AI is integrated here not as a marketing overlay, but as a set of practical tools. Among them are the AI Art Gallery for photo stylization, AI Studio for removing glare, shadows, and reflections, as well as Sketch and video generation functions that allow turning a sketch or text prompt into visual content. There is also a physical quick action button: a textured key on the body that provides instant access to the most sought-after functions and the assistant. Importantly, the manufacturer emphasizes the everyday usefulness of these tools rather than their demonstrative "wow-effect."
Perhaps the most practical novelty can be called "Smart Bookmarks." The assistant Ella analyzes the screen content, makes a brief summary, saves a screenshot, creates tags, and marks where the needed information is located. All of this goes into the "Knowledge Base" section, transforming the usual habit of taking dozens of screenshots into a more structured process. The presentation showed that TECNO aims to compete not only with the cameras of other brands but also with their ecosystem services, where information search and content sorting become as important an advantage as image quality.
Integrations with Yandex services have also been expanded, and the intelligent assistant OZON has been added, which helps compare products, find the best deals, and compile selections. This is already a direct entry of the smartphone into the realm of everyday shopping and digital navigation through personal tasks. Against this backdrop, OneLink, the updated feature for searching and connecting nearby devices, looks logical: now it can not only link the smartphone with other devices but also control household appliances, including TVs and air conditioners. Essentially, TECNO continues to build a small ecosystem around the smartphone, where the device acts as a single control center.
There was also a lighter, but characteristic for the brand, block about pets. The "Furry Ambassador of TECNO CAMON 50" contest, organized together with the "Four Paws" network, gathered thousands of applications from across the country, and the winner was a cocker spaniel named Stesha. Against the backdrop of the presentation, this did not look like a random entertainment insert, but as part of the overall idea of the series: the smartphone should confidently operate in a lively, unpredictable daily rhythm, where emotions, spontaneity, and camera reaction speed are important.
Concluding the presentation, TECNO also reminded about the external aspect of the lineup. The CAMON 50 Ultra 5G turned out to be thin and, despite the claimed protection, visually neat; the basic model CAMON 50 is also offered in several colors. Inside the devices is the HiOS 16 shell based on Android 16, and among the additional bonuses for Russian users, 200 GB of proprietary cloud storage for three years is announced. In total, the new series looks like an attempt by TECNO to establish itself in an important market niche: to offer a smartphone that can simultaneously shoot, is protected from everyday risks, is rich in AI tools, and does not require the user to have subscriptions or deep immersion in settings. This set today defines competition in the mid and upper mass segments.
