Perplexity's AI browser is significantly improved for iPad use.

Perplexity has enhanced its Comet browser, making it more suitable for iPads. Following its launch for iOS users last month, the company is now introducing full iPadOS support, which includes multiple windows and Split View functionality. This update is now live on the App Store and addresses one of the major limitations of the browser's initial tablet release.

Is Comet now sufficiently practical for daily use on the iPad?

The standout feature of Comet is its integrated AI assistant, which enables users to search, ask questions, summarize web pages, and perform various online tasks directly within the browser. While this feature was beneficial for quick searches on mobile, the iPad version required better multitasking capabilities to effectively utilize the larger display.

A new native Comet experience for iPad has been launched. Comet now seamlessly integrates with iPadOS features such as multiple windows and Split View, allowing you to use Comet alongside your existing applications. It is available now on the App Store.

With Split View, users can maintain Comet alongside another app, like Notes, Mail, Pages, Slack, or a PDF reader. The introduction of multiple windows also enhances the browser's usability for research-intensive activities, permitting a user to conduct browsing in one window while using another for follow-up inquiries, summaries, or information comparison.

This update should enhance Comet's usability for students, writers, researchers, and anyone who utilizes the iPad as a laptop alternative. It also provides users with a greater incentive to adopt Comet as their primary browser, rather than only accessing it for AI-assisted searches.

Could this encourage more users to transition to Comet?

Perplexity made Comet freely accessible late last year, likely leading to increased exploration of the browser as an alternative to Chrome or Safari. Since then, the company has focused on improving the browser and expanding its availability across more platforms. We previously evaluated Comet as a possible replacement for Chrome and discovered that its natural-language browsing method alters users' experiences on the web.

For iPad users, this enhancement is practical. Comet now collaborates more effectively with commonly used applications, which may facilitate a smoother transition to Perplexity’s AI browser.

Apple's foldable iPad might face a fate similar to Microsoft's ill-fated Surface Neo.

The foldable iPad could remain an experiment rather than becoming a market product.

Apple is investigating the development of a significant foldable iPad, though this initiative might be one of those projects that appears more appealing on a roadmap than it does in retail. A recent Bloomberg report indicates Apple is working on a roughly 20-inch foldable iPad, which has reportedly become a priority for new CEO John Ternus. Although it seems like one of the company's most ambitious hardware projects in years on paper, it might never actually reach store shelves.

A potential shift in the iPad lineup could make choosing one less perplexing.

Apple may be reconsidering its approach to naming future iPads, steering away from the familiar generation-based system. In a recent interview with John Ternus and Greg Joswiak from Tom’s Guide, this subtle but potentially impactful change was discussed, focusing not on hardware but on brand identity.

Why I opted for the Supernote Nomad over other e-ink tablets.

The Supernote Nomad turned out to be the e-ink tablet I didn’t know I needed, and now I can’t put it down.

The Supernote Nomad has become my top purchase in the past year, and believe me, deciding to buy it wasn’t easy. I was unaware that the e-ink tablet market had expanded so significantly, and every tablet I considered had at least a few compromises that didn’t suit me. In the end, after evaluating and eliminating at least six e-ink tablets from my list, I finally chose the Supernote Nomad. While it does come with some drawbacks, there were five key reasons why I settled on this particular model.
