      A wider version of Samsung's Galaxy Fold has been revealed, and the presence of Qi2 magnets has generated even more enthusiasm than its design.

      Samsung is working on a wider Galaxy Fold, which may not come as a surprise for those following recent technology updates. Although its launch was anticipated, new dummy unit leaks have provided us with our first official glimpse of the design, which is indeed exciting.

      The first look at dummy models of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Wide, and Z Flip8 shows the Fold8 Wide closely matching the expected dimensions of the iPhone Fold. The new design is shorter and broader compared to the standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. If earlier leaks are accurate, the inner display is set to be 7.6 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

      I'm quite fond of the size. When closed, it appears compact enough for one-handed use, finally providing something to excite fans of smaller devices.

      What I find even more thrilling than the design is that the dummy units seem to feature a circular cutout in the center, akin to Apple’s MagSafe charging system. This magnetic charging mechanism was incorporated as the Qi2 standard, but apart from Google, no other company has adopted it.

      The Qi2 standard not only enables quicker wireless charging, but the built-in magnets ensure the device aligns perfectly with the charger. If Apple's MagSafe ecosystem is any indication, this could also lead to a flourishing market for accessories for Samsung devices.

      The forthcoming wide foldable shows great potential. My hope is that, unlike the Galaxy S25 Edge, which Samsung introduced to rival the iPhone Air only to abandon, this will not just be a reactionary product but a new line that Samsung commits to developing and enhancing.
