El Primer Ministro español, Pedro Sánchez, visita el Parque Tecnológico de Xiaomi en Pekín.
On Monday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, currently on an official visit to China, toured the Xiaomi Technology Park in Beijing. He was accompanied throughout the visit by Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, who provided insights into the company’s business structure.
This visit not only underscored the strengthening technological collaboration between China and Spain but also emphasized the increasing global impact of Chinese technology firms.
Accompanied by Lei Jun, Prime Minister Sánchez explored the Xiaomi exhibition hall and engaged with several of the company’s latest innovations, which included the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 smart vehicles as well as Xiaomi AI glasses. During a test drive of the YU7, Sánchez expressed considerable interest in the vehicle’s connectivity with smartphones, inquiring in detail about its range and advanced driver-assistance features. After learning that Xiaomi aims to begin international deliveries of its vehicles in 2027, with Europe as the initial target, he noted, “The Spanish market is ready to welcome Xiaomi cars.”
In Spain, Xiaomi operates across various sectors, such as smartphones, smart home devices, and the automotive value chain. According to Omdia, Xiaomi was ranked No. 1 in Spain’s smartphone market in 2025, holding a 30% market share. Lei Jun also mentioned Xiaomi’s partnerships with local Spanish firms, including its co-developed high-end imaging technology with Leica and the collaborative creation of a smart ecosystem alongside local supply chains.
Sánchez personally tested the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica edition smartphone and took a selfie with Lei Jun, humorously stating that it was “the best testament to China-Spain technological cooperation.”
This visit represents Sánchez’s fourth trip to China in four years and is a significant part of his current agenda. On the same day, he also spoke at Tsinghua University, highlighting that “technological innovation is a new engine for China-Spain cooperation.” The visit indicates a shift in Chinese tech companies from merely exporting products to exporting technological standards, contributing fresh energy to global industrial transformation.
