The MacBook Neo is reportedly selling very quickly, and Apple is looking to increase production to meet demand.
MacBook Neo could surpass Apple's expectations
Apple's budget Mac has surprised many, and its sales might be exceeding initial forecasts significantly. Reports indicate that the company has placed an urgent follow-up order for the MacBook Neo after early sales exceeded projections.
A report from MoneyUDN suggests that Apple has increased its shipment forecast for the device from "several million" units to over 10 million, with key manufacturing partners Foxconn and Quanta preparing to assist with increased production.
According to the report, the MacBook Neo's attraction is evident. Priced at $599, it is noted as Apple's most affordable notebook to date, and this lower price point seems to have sparked a worldwide buying frenzy. There are claims that the MacBook Neo has already sold out, leading to shortages as demand continues to rise.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has reportedly mentioned that the first week of sales for the MacBook Neo marked the best opening week among new Mac users in the history of the lineup. If this is accurate, Apple is not only selling a substantial number of units but also attracting many first-time Mac buyers.
In response to significant demand, it appears Foxconn is producing the MacBook Neo in both China and Vietnam, with Quanta also contributing as a manufacturing partner. The report clarifies that Apple suppliers typically do not comment on specific customers or products, so the information is based on unnamed supply chain sources.
Apple seems to have underestimated the demand for an affordable Mac notebook and is now working to catch up. This is especially evident in the delivery timelines. The MacBook Neo went on sale globally on March 11, and current orders via Apple’s online store show delivery dates ranging from April 24 to May 1, indicating that supply is already under strain.
Additionally, the report states that Apple’s inventory of the A18 chipset is being rapidly depleted, which could complicate the supply issues further if demand remains high.
Microsoft increases prices on Surface laptops and tablets
Microsoft has recently implemented a significant price increase across its Surface computing devices, and the change is quite noticeable. The prices for the popular Surface laptops have risen throughout the lineup, primarily due to ongoing memory shortages and higher component costs. The new pricing is already reflected in the Microsoft Store for the latest generation of hardware.
Is there a limit to the price increases?
You can customize your MacBook Neo with a variety of colors if you're equipped with the DIY tools.
Although the MacBook Neo may be Apple’s most affordable laptop, it has also become one of the most unusual DIY projects the company has inadvertently facilitated. Macworld notes that Apple has made MacBook Neo parts available through its Self Service Repair program, and the operation of the store allows for some imaginative color combinations. The store reportedly does not restrict purchases of replacement parts based on the original color of the device. This means you could order a Citrus bottom case for a silver MacBook Neo or Indigo keycaps for a blush-colored version.
Avoid falling for the fake Windows update support site that distributes password-stealing malware.
A fraudulent Windows update site is deceiving users into installing malware.
If you come across a website prompting you to manually install a "Windows update" via a large blue download button, it’s best to close that tab immediately. Malwarebytes has identified a counterfeit Microsoft support site (microsoft-update.support) that falsely claims to offer a cumulative update for Windows 24H2, but it actually delivers malware designed to steal passwords.
The entire website is crafted to appear legitimate, utilizing proper KB-style references and downloading an 83MB MSI file named Windowsupdate1.0.0.msi, which looks quite authentic in its file properties.
