The financial details of the acquisition haven't been revealed. This marks AppDirect's sixth acquisition in the last twelve months, following its purchases of Tackle.io (which focuses on cloud go-to-market with over $20B in hyperscaler transactions), vCom Solutions (worth over $100M, specializing in network/mobility), and DNE Resources (in the energy sector).

      AppDirect, which has raised $438 million and has a valuation of $1.5 billion, is in the process of creating an “Everything Store” for B2B technology distribution. This initiative integrates marketplace commerce, hyperscaler integrations, advisor networks, and now partner management all in one platform. PartnerStack, originally founded in 2015 as GrowSumo and backed by $38.2 million in funding—including a $29 million Series B—has emerged from Y Combinator.

      The acquisition brings together one of the largest B2B subscription commerce platforms with a significant player in partner management software, as PartnerStack holds around 50% of the market in this category with about 3,900 customers. According to G2, PartnerStack has raised $38.2 million over five funding rounds, including a $29 million Series B led by 3L Capital in 2021, and entered the market via Y Combinator's 2015 cohort.

      AppDirect CEO Nicolas Desmarais expressed that this acquisition positions the company at the heart of the infrastructure driving enterprise technology purchasing decisions today. Their goal is clear: to be the platform through which every SaaS company reaches its customers—whether through direct marketplace listings, cloud hyperscaler storefronts, advisor recommendations, or partner referrals.

      The timing of this acquisition reflects a significant shift in enterprise software distribution. Gartner predicts that by 2026, 80% of B2B software buyers will use marketplaces for their purchases, up from 35% in 2021. Revenue from cloud marketplaces is expected to increase from 20% to 32% of total B2B software revenue. Furthermore, studies suggest that deals generated through partner channels are 53% more likely to close, conclude 46% faster, and result in a 48% higher average contract value compared to direct sales.

      The global partner relationship management market, currently valued at around $880 million in 2023, is anticipated to reach $2.38 billion by 2030, attracting consolidation. G2's acquisition of Capterra, Software Advice, and GetApp from Gartner in January unified the software discovery aspect under a single entity.

      Similarly, AppDirect’s acquisition of PartnerStack unites various facets of distribution—marketplace commerce, cloud-go-to-market, advisor networks, and partner management—on a single platform.

      The competitive landscape includes players like Impact.com, which operates a significant partnership automation network, as well as Crossbeam and Reveal, which focus on ecosystem-led growth through shared data intelligence. However, none of these companies combine partner management with the comprehensive commerce infrastructure that AppDirect claims to provide.

      AppDirect believes that the fragmentation in B2B distribution presents an opportunity, and that the company creating the most inclusive platform will capture a substantial portion of the market. They wager that the future of enterprise software—characterized by AI-driven procurement and automated partner matching—will favor platforms boasting extensive data networks and unified infrastructure over singular solutions.
