Meow Technologies introduces the inaugural agentic banking platform designed for AI agents.

In summary: Meow Technologies has introduced what it claims is the world's first agentic banking platform, allowing AI agents to open business bank accounts, issue cards, send payments, and manage daily account activities for users without human intervention. The platform is compatible with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, and other major AI tools, and features a permissioned architecture, ensuring that agents cannot move money unilaterally by default. This announcement represents a significant advancement in the competition among fintech companies to establish a foundational financial infrastructure for the emerging agent economy.

The agentic stack expands into financial services

By spring 2026, AI agents had started to write and publish blog posts, manage customer service queues, redesign marketing processes, and coordinate tasks within enterprise software. However, banking remained a notable gap as all other aspects of business operations were entrusted to autonomous agents, while financial accounts still required human involvement to log in, navigate dashboards, and authorize transactions.

Meow Technologies, a fintech company based in San Francisco and founded in 2021, revealed on April 8, 2026, its plans to bridge this gap. The company launched what it refers to as the first agentic banking platform, enabling users to request an AI agent in natural language to open a business checking account on their behalf. The agent subsequently has the capability to issue both virtual and physical corporate cards, check balances, process payments, and manage invoicing—all without needing to consult a human at each stage.

This announcement coincides with Zendesk's acquisition of the self-improving agentic AI platform Forethought, highlighting the expectation that 2026 will see AI agents performing more enterprise operations than humans. Additionally, Canva's acquisition of the agentic AI platform Simtheory aims to integrate agents into its marketing and design processes. Meow asserts that financial operations should be treated as a comparable function to these other business processes and that the necessary infrastructure is now available.

      Platform functionalities

A user connecting a compatible AI tool to Meow’s platform can issue a straightforward natural language command, such as “open a business account for my new project,” enabling the agent to complete the account setup, adjust settings, and prepare it for use. The platform integrates with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Gemini, and offers an MCP endpoint at meow.com/mcp, allowing any Model Context Protocol-compatible agent to directly connect to the banking infrastructure. Once an account is established, the agent can issue corporate cards, carry out transfers to vendors or team members, retrieve balance and transaction data for audits or reports, and manage invoicing without requiring the account holder to log in to a dashboard. According to Brandon Arvanaghi, Meow’s CEO, this initiative represents a fundamental transformation in how business banking is consumed.

“Autonomous finance has arrived,” he stated. “With Meow, AI agents can handle everything from account openings to daily management.” The significance of the MCP integration is noteworthy. As of February 2026, the Model Context Protocol had over 6,400 registered servers, establishing itself as the prevalent standard for connecting AI agents to external systems and services. By creating its own MCP server, Meow positions its banking infrastructure as an integral part of this ecosystem, rather than a peripheral integration, allowing any agent or development environment that already supports MCP to access Meow’s accounts without the need for custom coding. The supported tools, including Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Gemini, encompass the majority of active agent frameworks, indicating that Meow’s potential market includes virtually all businesses utilizing agentic workflows.

      Guardrails and trust architecture

The primary concern surrounding agentic finance is clear: AI agents capable of autonomously transferring funds create a new vulnerability, whether through prompt injection, misaligned instructions, or simple mistakes. Meow has structured its permissioning framework around the principle that agents should operate under the same rules applicable to human employees, with potentially stricter regulations. By default, agents are not permitted to move money on their own; each transaction follows the same initiator-and-approver process that would apply to a human finance team member, and the platform enforces transfer limits, two-factor authentication, and role-based permissions from the infrastructure level, rather than relying on the agent for self-regulation.

Every transaction is logged and fully auditable. The decision by WordPress.com in March 2026 to give AI agents publishing rights across its platform reflects the rapid expansion of agent permissions in essential business systems, as well as the governance issues that arise from it. Meow addresses these governance challenges with a configurable controls layer that companies can tailor to their risk tolerance: an e-commerce business with a high-volume payment process can set higher transfer limits and streamline approval steps, while a professional services firm with more conservative treasury policies could require human authorization for significant amounts. Arvanaghi suggested that this trend is inevitable rather than optional. “We believe banking will quickly transition from apps and dashboards to a seamless, automated experience via AI
