      This email application aims to be like Tinder for your inbox, and honestly, it somewhat achieves that.

      Email applications have long sought to make managing your inbox quicker, smarter, and less burdensome. However, Avec appears to have noticed that the true solution was simple: treat emails like a dating app.

      Avec is a new mobile email app that displays your inbox as a stack of swipeable cards rather than the typical list format. While this may seem like a significant shift, the functionality is quite straightforward. Swipe left to deal with an email later, swipe right to mark it as done or archive it, and swipe down to categorize less important messages into an “unimportant” folder that the app can later compile for easier management.

      Why this approach is intriguing

      The card-based design is the focal point, and indeed, the comparison to Tinder helps with its marketing. Avec seeks to alleviate inbox fatigue on smartphones, where email can often feel cramped, tedious, and easily overlooked. The app does offer a traditional list-based inbox for those who are not ready to fully embrace the swipe-card interface.

      However, this design alone could have made Avec just another unusual email client. Instead, it also incorporates voice input and AI technology.

      What role does AI play?

      Avec allows users to press a button to dictate an email response using their voice. Once the user stops speaking, the app converts that recording into a draft that can be reviewed, edited, and sent. According to founder Jonathan Unikowski, this gives Avec an advantage over separate keyboard dictation tools since the app understands the full email context, recognizes names, and better aligns tone and writing styles.

      But there’s a limitation.

      Currently, Avec is only available in the United States and is exclusive to the iPhone. It is free for Gmail users. Outlook compatibility is reportedly on the way, and the company has mentioned that premium subscription options will be introduced later. However, details about what these premium features will entail have not yet been finalized.
