ChatGPT is receiving an important update to enhance file management.
A new Library tab and Recent files menu are designed to significantly enhance the process of locating, reusing, and interacting with files throughout ChatGPT conversations.
OpenAI is addressing one of the more frustrating aspects of file management within ChatGPT. The company is introducing two new features to facilitate quick access to files that have been uploaded in the past, namely the Recent files menu and a dedicated Library tab.
How will the new file management features in ChatGPT function?
Previously, files in ChatGPT were primarily associated with specific conversations, which meant locating them often required returning to the original chat and scrolling through lengthy discussions. The new Recent files option within the attachment menu now showcases some of the files you have recently used, making it much simpler to resume work without sifting through older chats.
Finding, reusing, and extending the files you upload and create in ChatGPT is now more straightforward. You can easily refer to files in a chat using the recent files feature in the toolbar, inquire about something you’ve uploaded, or explore your files through the new Library tab in the web sidebar.
In the web interface, the new Library tab serves as a central location for all your uploaded and generated files, offering a more organized overview rather than linking them to distinct conversations. This tab allows you to browse, search, and quickly attach files to new chats.
OpenAI asserts that ChatGPT can also answer queries regarding files you've already uploaded, eliminating the need to re-upload them whenever you seek further insights. Collectively, these updates make file reuse quicker and much less cumbersome, especially for those who frequently handle files across various sessions.
Who will have access, and when?
This update is being rolled out globally to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers. Users in the EU, Switzerland, and the UK will need to wait a little longer, with availability in these regions anticipated soon. There has been no announcement regarding whether these features will be available to the free tier.
With these enhancements, OpenAI continues to position ChatGPT as more than just a chatbot, gradually transforming it into a tool for managing ongoing work across conversations.

A new study reveals that most chatbots provide remarkably similar responses, which raises concerns about their impact on creative thinking.
AI chatbots are meant to inspire creativity, not limit it, yet new research suggests that depending on them too much might be having the opposite effect. A study published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence indicates that top models, like Gemini, GPT, and Llama, frequently end up in similar conceptual areas when addressing creative tasks. While many responses appear original and beneficial on their own, a broader perspective reveals a different trend. Across various prompts and users, the outputs start to align.
OpenAI is enhancing ChatGPT's shopping features, making it easier to browse Shopify-powered brand stores and shop for products with a more flexible checkout process. This update builds on the company’s initiative in "agentic commerce," aimed at improving product discovery and simplifying purchases.
A new AI model is examining the question many drivers don’t consider early enough: their likelihood of crashing before starting to drive. This system analyzes driving behavior by monitoring factors such as eye movement, heart rate, and personality traits to identify early warning signs. Rather than waiting for real-world errors to occur, it uses simulated driving tests to reveal behaviors associated with dangerous outcomes.
