**Quick Overview**
If you’re eyeing the OnePlus 15 but prefer a more budget-friendly option with selective compromises, the OnePlus 15R might be the answer. However, in a year where OnePlus has dazzled with their top-tier models, this mid-range offering initially feels underwhelming.
At $699.99 for the base model (256GB of storage; an additional $100 for 512GB), it is only $200 cheaper than its feature-rich sibling, despite various compromises. In fact, it costs $100 more than the OnePlus 13R, released just eight months earlier, which has outperformed the new model in several key areas.
Nonetheless, after using the OnePlus 15R for a month, I found myself impressed; it is a robust Android phone, though it may not be a standout in OnePlus’ lineup. The device forgoes the extravagant features typically expected from flagship models, focusing instead on specifications and qualities that genuinely benefit the average user.
For example, the OnePlus 15R delivers the best battery life of any phone I’ve tested, and it stands out for its sturdiness compared to most devices I've used. It features a beautifully large display. Instead of overloading it with questionable AI features, OxygenOS offers practical tools that enhance navigation and organization.
The phone’s charging speed and processing capabilities are also commendable, even if they don't quite match those of OnePlus’ flagship devices. If there’s one area that signals the OnePlus 15R isn’t a top-tier phone, it's its camera setup, which lacks some hardware components found in the brand's other devices. It could easily be recommended as an Android option if it presented a compelling value compared to the recently released OnePlus 13 series or even its premium counterpart, leading me to believe it's around $100 more than it should be. However, if you can snag it on sale, it's worth considering.

**OnePlus 15R Design is Functional but Uninspired**
**Quick Take**: The OnePlus 15R is a durable phone, but it doesn't have a striking design.
If you were let down by the bland appearance of the OnePlus 15 compared to its predecessor, the R model offers no improvement. It mimics its sibling’s understated style—flat edges, top-left camera protrusion, and a plain back. While I share the sentiment that this uninspired design is pervasive in the Android market, it feels appropriate for a mid-range phone.
The device is slightly larger, sticking out a bit more than the 15 and has a little more weight, all conducive to the spacious screen.
Despite its unremarkable aesthetics, the OnePlus 15R features the company’s design innovation: the Plus Key. This customizable button provides quick access to various functions when pressed and held; I assigned it to launch the camera app, but it can also activate the torch, switch to Do Not Disturb, open the Recorder app, capture screenshots, and more. It took a while to become second nature but proved quite handy over time, and it can serve as a shutter button, although it’s positioned awkwardly for that purpose.
In the accompanying images, you can see the Charcoal Black variant. Additionally, a Mint Breeze color option is available in select regions.
Thanks to multiple protection certifications, the OnePlus 15R is quite durable, boasting IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings. This means it can withstand submersion in up to 1.5 meters of water, exposure to high-temperature jets, and resistance to dust and sand infiltration.
It endured several drops and bumps during my testing
