The biggest intrigue surrounding The Fantastic Four: The First Steps has been clarified, and it does not relate to Robert Downey Jr.’s rumored role as Doctor Doom. The identity of H.E.R.B.I.E. has now been disclosed.
Matthew Wood, a sound editor and voice actor, will lend his voice to H.E.R.B.I.E. — Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics. Designed by Reed Richards, H.E.R.B.I.E. is an android that assists the Fantastic Four. H.E.R.B.I.E. excels in supporting Reed in his laboratory.
In a conversation with Empire, director Matt Shakman hinted at H.E.R.B.I.E.’s crucial role as the fifth member of the four-person group.
“He is just as significant and lively as any other cast member,” Shakman noted. “At times, he’s a slightly burdened robot, but he truly is part of the family. He’s incredibly charming and lovable. He acts as Reed’s right-hand assistant in the lab, available for any kind of experimentation, always by his side whether in New York City or in space.”
Wood is recognized for his Academy Award-nominated work as a sound editor on various Star Wars films, including the sequel trilogy. He is also well-known for voicing General Grievous in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
“He’s charming, he’s funny — but he also has the ability to make you feel deeply,” Shakman commented on Wood’s performance.

Kenergy is about to enter the galaxy as Ryan Gosling considers a role in the Star Wars realm. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gosling is in negotiations to star in a Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool and Wolverine.
As is common with Star Wars projects, specific plot details remain under wraps. However, the film will tell a standalone story that is not connected to the Skywalker Saga.
