Florence Pugh's portrayal of Yelena is increasingly becoming a key aspect of the Marvel franchise with each new film. Thunderbolts marks the first time she takes the lead role, and it's also where she carries substantial emotional weight.
After her experience with Thunderbolts, Pugh expressed her desire for Yelena to return to a more cheerful state when she next appears in Avengers: Doomsday.
“I hope she’s found happiness and feels a sense of purpose,” Pugh shared with Variety when asked about her hopes for Yelena in Doomsday. “I would love for her to show some of her light, charm, and vibrancy again because I enjoyed that aspect of her character before.”
Pugh also shared her enthusiasm about the impressive cast being brought together for the film, mentioning that there are too many prominent actors to pick a favorite. “Oh, god, there are way too many people in it [to choose]! Pedro Pascal, obviously, always and forever. Paul Rudd is so funny. It’s genuinely wild to think all these actors will be in the same movie,” she remarked.
While it’s confirmed that Pugh will be part of the film, the extent of Yelena and her co-stars' roles remains unclear. However, with Pugh's rising stardom since joining the MCU, it's a safe assumption that she will play a significant role in Marvel's future plans.

Elizabeth Olsen will not reprise her role as Scarlet Witch in the upcoming Avengers films.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, it was mentioned that filming for the upcoming Avengers movies will start soon in London. Olsen, who was recently in London for another project, indicated that she has returned to the U.S. to work on a pilot.
The Russo brothers were initially hesitant to direct the next two Avengers films.
The Russo brothers have significantly shaped the Marvel cinematic landscape, but were at first reluctant to take on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The directors behind Infinity War and Endgame revealed that they initially declined the offer to helm these new Avengers films, even with the chance to work with Robert Downey Jr. again. In an interview with Omelete, Joe Russo mentioned that Downey Jr. had already been signed on to return and was the one who initially reached out to them.
Florence Pugh describes Thunderbolts as feeling like a “badass indie, A24-style movie.”
Four years after first appearing as Yelena Belova in Black Widow, Florence Pugh is set to return in Thunderbolts. In a recent interview with the film's cast and creative team, Pugh told Empire how distinct the movie feels compared to typical Marvel productions. “It turned out to be this really badass indie, A24-style assassin film featuring Marvel superheroes,” she explained.
