In the realm of FPS games, the significance of the story often varies. For instance, although you can play the Call of Duty series sequentially, only a select few titles actually connect to one another. In contrast, experiencing the Halo games in order is almost essential for grasping the narrative. The Borderlands series occupies a middle ground; while many might think the story isn't crucial due to its comedic emphasis, there's actually an extensive lore within this universe, with each game, including the spin-offs, linking to Borderlands 4. Don't let the label of "4" mislead you, as the franchise has far more than just four games. Having been fans since its inception, we will guide you on how to play the entire Borderlands series in both release and chronological order.
**All Borderlands Games in Release Order**
Since the series launched in 2009, there have been 9 games in the Borderlands universe, with Borderlands 4 anticipated to be the 10th. This comprises the main four titles along with several spin-offs. Excluding any remastered versions, here’s the order of release from the oldest to the newest, which we suggest if you want to experience how the quality and mechanics evolve.
1. Borderlands (2009)
2. Borderlands Legends (2012)
3. Borderlands 2 (2012)
4. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (2014)
5. Tales From The Borderlands (2014 – 2015)
6. Borderlands 3 (2019)
7. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland (2022)
8. New Tales From The Borderlands (2022)
9. Borderlands: Vault Hunter Pinball (2023)
10. Borderlands 4 (2025)
**All Borderlands Games in Chronological Order**
Playing through the Borderlands titles in chronological order is a bit more complicated than in some other franchises. This complexity largely arises from The Pre-Sequel, which shifts between two different timeline points. We’ll indicate the two timeline positions for this game; however, due to its nature, it’s best to play the entire game the first time we mention it. While it’s not necessary to play every game to enjoy the series, all the games are entertaining and offer rewards for those who experience the complete narrative.
Additionally, Borderlands Legends is not included here, as it has been removed and is no longer accessible.
Although unofficial, we will utilize the Fandom timeline for reckoning years in the Borderlands universe. Following this timeline, Borderlands 4 is considered the present day, with all preceding events labeled as X years ago (Y.A).
1. Borderlands (19-18 y.a.)
2. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (flashbacks 17 y.a.)
3. Borderlands 2 (16 y.a.)
4. Tales From the Borderlands (15 y.a.)
5. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (15 y.a.)
6. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (unknown time preceding 3)
7. Borderlands 3 (6 y.a.)
8. New Tales from the Borderlands (5 y.a.)
9. Borderlands 4 (current day)

**Kirby Air Riders: Release Window, Trailers, Gameplay, and More**
The list of forthcoming Switch 2 titles is brimming with major Nintendo franchises. The system will launch with Mario Kart World, followed by Donkey Kong Bananza a month later, and there's another beloved character confirmed for this year's lineup. Kirby Air Riders is a sequel to the cult classic GameCube game Kirby Air Ride, both directed by the renowned Masahiro Sakurai, known for his work on Smash Bros. Some may dismiss this Kirby spin-off as inferior compared to Nintendo's other racing franchises, but that couldn't be more inaccurate. Here’s all you need to know about Kirby Air Riders.

**Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment: Release Window, Trailers, Gameplay, and More**
Both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are contenders for the best games on the Switch, but they don't encompass the entire narrative of this version of Hyrule. The various Warriors games have excelled at transforming other franchises into expansive hack-and-slash action experiences, but the two Hyrule Warriors titles have elevated this by incorporating elements of the lore. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the third installment in this Zelda spin-off series and may be our final opportunity to visit the characters and locations we’ve grown fond of. Don't let the anticipation for Mario Kart World and The Duskbloods distract you; just because it isn't a mainline Zelda title doesn’t mean you should overlook Hyrule Warriors:

Although there are just four numbered titles, this represents only about half of the entire Borderlands series. While the overall atmosphere is lighthearted, these games feature an intricate lore and a continuous narrative if played sequentially.
