Getting stuck on a single clue may be the difference between achieving a personal best time and a disappointing attempt at a solution.

If you've incorporated puzzle games like Wordle and Connections into your routine in the past year, there's a new daily puzzle experience on the horizon. Puzzmo is a fresh platform that transforms the concept of a newspaper puzzle page into a responsive web page compatible with various devices. This ambitious new initiative is a collaboration between Orta Therox and Zach Gage, a game designer known for popular mobile titles like Knotwords and Good Sudoku. His latest project has been in development for years, aiming to serve as a comprehensive hub for Gage’s puzzle catalog, with hopes of competing against established sources like The New York Times.
The New York Times has launched a new puzzle game following the success of Wordle, and this one revolves around math. Digits challenges players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can currently play its beta version for free online.
In Digits, players must reach a target number using provided numbers. They can add, subtract, multiply, or divide these numbers to get as close to the target as possible. Not all numbers need to be used, which tests your math skills as you combine numbers and create the right equations to approach the target.
Players can earn a five-star rating for matching the target exactly, three stars for being within 10, and one star for getting within 25 of the target number. Presently, players can access five different puzzles with progressively larger numbers. I completed today's puzzle and found it to be an engaging number-based game appealing to those who enjoy puzzle games like Threes or other New York Times titles such as Wordle and Spelling Bee.
In an article introducing Digits and explaining The New York Times Games team's development process, The Times mentioned that they will utilize this free beta to identify bugs and determine if the game is worth advancing into a more active development phase, "where the game is coded and the designs are finalized." Therefore, play Digits while you can, as The New York Times may discontinue the project if it does not receive the desired response.
Digits' beta is currently available for free on The New York Times Games' website.
If you logged on to Twitter a year ago, you likely remember when your feed began filling with gray, yellow, and green boxes. Although it launched in 2021 and gained popularity in December of that year, Wordle became a sudden cultural sensation in early 2022, almost impossible to avoid without using a muted words list. It represented a rare success story in gaming, able to capture a wide audience due to its simple elegance.
Wordle’s success soared just as quickly as its player base. In late January 2022, The New York Times announced that it had acquired the puzzle game from creator Josh Wardle for an undisclosed sum in the low seven figures— a surprising move that nearly overshadowed Sony's earlier announcement regarding its acquisition of Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2. This acquisition raised concerns among fans who feared that corporate ownership of such an independently-created game could compromise its essence.
