NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Tuesday, April 29.
Connections is regarded as one of the top puzzle games from the New York Times. The objective is to categorize a set of 16 words into four hidden groups (for now) based on their relationships. The puzzle resets every night at midnight, with each new challenge featuring varying levels of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, players can track their winning streaks and compare scores with friends.
Some days can be more challenging than others — much like other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're finding today’s puzzle a bit difficult, take a look at our Connections tips and tricks guide for helpful strategies or check out the hints for today’s Connections puzzle below. If you're still stuck, we’ll provide the answers at the end.
How to play Connections
Connections is a daily game centered around finding links between words. Players need to identify four groups of four words without making more than three mistakes. Play now. [Link]
You can enjoy Connections on the New York Times website or via the NYT Games app on iOS or Android.
In Connections, players will see a grid of 16 words — the goal is to sort them into four groups of four by revealing the connections that join them. These groups could represent themes such as video game series, book franchise sequels, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, etc.
While some words may appear to fit multiple categories, there is only one correct answer. You can shuffle the word grid and rearrange them to better see potential connections.
Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is the simplest to identify, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.
Select four words and click Submit. If correct, those four words will be eliminated from the grid, revealing the theme that connects them. A wrong answer counts as a mistake, and you’re limited to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Who edits the NYT Connections game?
Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles for The New York Times since 2020, is the daily editor for Connections.
“A few months ago, I received a new assignment: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and needed an editor,” Liu shared in an article detailing her process in June 2024. Most of my experience with puzzles has been focused on crosswords, so I was thrilled to try something new. I’ve enjoyed learning how puzzle editing unfolds after a game is approved, and understanding how our team integrates into a larger ecosystem.”
On the first anniversary of Connections earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok about her favorite puzzles to date:
