After an extended wait, the final patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to arrive on consoles and PC on April 15. According to Larian Studios, Patch 8 is the last significant update for the beloved game and introduces a wealth of new content, such as several subclasses, an evil ending, new Cantrips, spells, and more. This patch has been rigorously stress tested to address all glitches, and it appears to be ready for release into the world like a (slightly) benevolent Elder Brain.
This announcement was made on Larian’s official YouTube channel, aptly named the Channel From Hell. On April 16, the studio will conduct a livestream to provide a detailed look at Patch 8, including the new subclasses, and discuss the game’s future now that all major updates have been completed.
While its release is confirmed for April 15, Larian has not specified an exact time for the deployment. It is likely that the patch will be rolled out in phases based on geographic location and time zones, but we will update this article if a more precise timing is announced.
Although Patch 8 is said to be the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, the game's popularity is likely to continue. Recently, Larian Studios released a comprehensive set of modding tools, and the community has already begun creating new custom campaigns, races, classes, and more. Given that Baldur’s Gate 2 remains popular even 25 years after its release, fans of the sequel need not be concerned.
For those who haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 yet, now is a perfect opportunity to start. This expansive RPG will engage you for countless hours and is also an excellent couch co-op game to enjoy with friends or a partner. Currently, the game is not expected to receive any DLC, making it complete in all practical senses. However, with an estimated 17,000 different endings, there is ample content to keep you exploring Faerun for years.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will receive modding support in the next patch
Despite Larian Studios moving on to new projects, it has not yet abandoned Baldur's Gate 3. The studio announced that Patch 7 will arrive in September, bringing a number of highly requested features including the eagerly anticipated modding toolkit. A post on Steam provides more information about the toolkit, as well as new features like dynamic split-screen mode and enhancements to the permadeath Honour Mode. The modding kit utilizes Mod.io, allowing players to download mods on both PC and console. While Larian will still permit mod creation outside the toolkit, utilizing the software will ensure better compatibility with future updates. It also simplifies access to assets like cosmetics, classes, the UI, and more, offering an interface that doesn't solely consist of long lines of code.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to receive a transformative update later this year
Baldur's Gate 3 will officially gain modding support this September when Larian Studios launches Patch 7. This announcement was confirmed in the latest community update on the Steam page for Baldur's Gate 3. Although this patch is a few months away, Larian decided to announce it early to begin beta testing what it refers to as the "Baldur's Gate 3 Toolkit" prior to the full release. The studio is inviting notable modders to test the toolkit this month and will conduct a larger closed beta that supports 1,000 players in July.
Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t be getting DLC or a sequel from Larian, and that’s acceptable
Baldur's Gate 3 game director Swen Vincke surprised fans of the Dungeons & Dragons RPG by disclosing that the critically acclaimed game would not receive any expansions and that Larian Studios would not immediately start on Baldur's Gate 4. Given Baldur's Gate 3’s immense success, this seemed to be the most straightforward next step. Larian is not the only studio to leave a highly successful game behind; Nintendo has also confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will not have any expansions either.
These decisions may seem puzzling from a business standpoint or from the perspective of an eager player wanting more of something they enjoy. However, they become clearer when considering these games as complete works, appreciating the post-launch support that has been provided for a title like Baldur's Gate 3, and channeling that enthusiasm toward whatever the developers will create next.
Vincke explained to IGN that Larian had started some initial work on Baldur's Gate 3 DLC but determined that the limitations of working within D&D 5th edition meant the effort "wasn't really coming from the heart." The team’s passion centered on two other
