5 series to check out if you enjoy Your Friends and Neighbors.

Your Friends and Neighbors marks Jon Hamm’s return to the brooding and troubled character of Don Draper, which he portrayed in Mad Men. That landmark role opened the door to various other opportunities for the typically comedic actor, and his portrayal of Andrew “Coop” Cooper in this new Apple TV+ series carries a similar confidence. Coop seems to have everything one could desire: a stunning wife, an opulent home, two teenage children, good friends, and a satisfying career. However, everything soon falls apart. Left without a job, a wife, or any money, Coop turns into a twisted version of Peter Pan, resorting to stealing from his wealthy friends to maintain appearances.

The Apple TV+ drama, launching with its first two episodes on April 11, 2025, will consist of nine episodes. Already greenlit for a second season, viewers can expect one episode weekly thereafter, and the narrative will conclude before long. So, what can you watch in the meantime? Here are five shows to consider if you enjoy Your Friends and Neighbors.

      Mad Men (2007-2015)

      AMC

If you enjoy Your Friends and Neighbors, which focuses significantly on Hamm’s character, you’ll likely appreciate Mad Men. Even if you've seen the series already, it’s been a decade since its conclusion and 18 years since its premiere. Relive the journey of Don Draper, a brilliant yet troubled advertising executive working at a prestigious firm during the peak of the industry in the 1950s and 1960s. Don possesses a unique ability to create campaigns and deliver pitches that narrate compelling stories, captivating his audience with every word. Yet, beneath the surface, he grapples with significant pain.

Like Hamm’s two characters, Mad Men explores themes such as money not equating to happiness, the consuming nature of power and wealth, and a protagonist's dark descent. Both shows follow distinct plots, but there's a curious connection in their shared themes of trauma.

      Dexter (2006-2013)

      Randy Tepper / Showtime

If you find Coop’s inner thoughts intriguing in Your Friends and Neighbors, you’ll likely enjoy a similar narrative style in Dexter. This Showtime crime drama follows a vigilante serial killer whose dark double life involves hunting down murderers, stabbing them, dismembering their bodies, and disposing of them in the ocean. Dexter then returns to his perceived normal existence. This contrasts sharply with Coop’s less extreme actions, which revolve around stealing and reselling his friends’ possessions.

Both series are narrated through inner monologues, with the protagonists observing the metaphorical masks people wear in real life. Each show provides a rationale for the protagonists’ immoral actions, which curiously makes them sympathetic. Just be aware that while Dexter is considered one of the top shows of its generation, it also has one of the most criticized series finales. Fortunately, a limited series revival, a prequel, and an upcoming sequel aim to address this.

      Shrinking (2023-)

      Apple TV+

Shrinking also follows a male lead who feels he has lost everything, in this case, his wife tragically passing away, compared to Coop's divorce. Like Coop, Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) attempts to salvage his life but employs disastrous methods that ultimately backfire.

Both series examine a man wrestling with reality, veering into chaos, and striving to regain his footing. While Shrinking employs a more comedic tone, it also includes deeply emotional and heartbreaking moments as Jimmy harms those around him and seeks healing.

      Billions (2016-2023)

      Showtime

Billions offers a stark contrast to Your Friends and Neighbors. It presents a drama surrounding a hedge fund manager who thrives in morally ambiguous territories, pitted against a U.S. Attorney determined to bring him down. From a career standpoint, Coop shares this occupation, finding himself betrayed by his boss, who unexpectedly dismisses him.

Although the career elements in Your Friends and Neighbors take a secondary role to the main storyline, both shows delve into the murky operations of the financial industry and the avaricious individuals willing to do anything to succeed.

      The White Lotus (2021-)

      Fabio Lovino / HBO

Recently concluding its third season and already renewed for a fourth, The White Lotus bears surface-level similarities to Your Friends and Neighbors, as both investigate the lives of the wealthy elite. The families and individuals at the center of these narratives possess more money than they can handle, yet they each hide significant trauma. Once Coop starts engaging in criminal activity, he realizes that his affluent friends and neighbors, who appear to have their lives in order, conceal many dark secrets, similar to the characters in The White Lotus.

Especially in season three of The White Lotus, themes of spirituality and confronting the reality of escaping or masking pain
