Tesla's new Cybertruck variant offers a lower price while providing an extended range.

Tesla has recently launched the most economical version of its Cybertruck in the US. Priced at $69,990, it drops to $62,490 with the applicable federal tax credit. This new "Long Range" rear-wheel drive (RWD) model has both appealing and unusual features.

Notably, despite being the least expensive trim, it boasts the longest per-charge range at 350 miles. In contrast, the more expensive All-Wheel Drive variant offers 325 miles, and the premium $99,990 Cyberbeast model achieves only 301 miles.

The significant price gap, along with the range benefit, may persuade many customers to opt for the new Long Range version. Its affordability is indeed attractive, especially since Tesla quietly discontinued the entry-level $60,990 model last year.

However, it's important to consider that the lower price comes with certain functional trade-offs. For instance, the powered tonneau cover is no longer included; buyers must now pay an additional $750 for the soft tonneau, which does provide an extra 12 miles of range.

This model features a single motor, while the other available models use dual and triple motors. Consequently, it has a slower acceleration time of 6.2 seconds and a reduced towing capacity of 7,500 lbs, down from 11,000 lbs of other configurations.

Additionally, Tesla has made some other compromises that potential buyers may want to think about before purchasing a Cybertruck. The Long Range model lacks front ventilated seats, the specific 9.4-inch display for rear passengers, and active noise cancellation in the audio system.

Moreover, the adaptive air suspension is absent in this new Cybertruck variant. It also does not include the vault bed, L-tracks, or the ability to adjust the ride height. It appears that Tesla is positioning this new variant more as an incentive to upgrade to the more expensive models.

Tesla is broadening its vehicle range. We've been aware for a while that the company was developing two new models. At a recent shareholders meeting, CEO Elon Musk revealed a slide featuring three cars covered by a white sheet, implying that there are indeed three new Tesla vehicles on the horizon. This expansion will increase Tesla's consumer lineup to eight cars, which is expected to cater to a wider audience.

However, details regarding these new vehicles are still sparse. Nevertheless, Tesla has provided some insights, and numerous rumors have circulated about what the company might be working on.

Currently, an issue with Tesla’s Cybertruck has reportedly led to the suspension of deliveries for about a week while the problem is addressed.
