Having trouble installing Chrome? You're not the only one, and here's a solution.

If you've encountered an error while trying to install Google Chrome, you're not alone. This issue emerged yesterday with widespread mentions on Reddit and other social media sites, seemingly due to a bug on Google's side. Users are attempting to download Chrome but are receiving an incorrect version. While this is a frustrating situation, it can be resolved relatively simply.

The problem mainly affects computers with Intel and AMD processors, as they are mistakenly being given a version of Chrome intended for Snapdragon chips. Nevertheless, some resourceful users have already discovered a workaround to help you install your preferred browser until Google provides a fix.

Some users have discovered that Chrome can be installed using a specific link. Others found the most efficient method is to use an offline installer. To access this, head to the Chrome website (or click the provided link), scroll down to 'Chrome Family,' and select 'Other Platforms.' This will display a list of download options. In this case, you’ll probably want to select either Windows 11/10 64-bit or Windows 10 32-bit. Simply download the file and install it from there.

Some have also suggested transferring an existing installation file to a new computer via a flash drive, but we haven't been able to verify the effectiveness of that method.

So far, Google has not released an official statement regarding the bug. We hope to see a resolution soon, as the workaround may be somewhat confusing for users who aren't particularly tech-savvy. That said, if you follow the steps outlined above, you can successfully download Chrome on a new machine without any issues.

It's worth noting that this problem only affects new installations. If Chrome is already installed on your device, you shouldn't face any challenges when starting it up.

Whatever you do, avoid installing the Windows 11 September update

Microsoft has alerted users through a post on its support blog that the September KB5043145 update, released on Thursday, is causing certain Windows 11 PCs to restart repeatedly, display the blue screen of death, or freeze altogether.

The issues arising from the recent update impact users on the 22H2 or 23H3 versions of Windows 11. However, Microsoft is currently investigating the matter and will share more details as they become available. Microsoft confirmed: "After installing this update, some customers reported that their device restarts multiple times or becomes unresponsive with blue or green screens. According to reports, some devices automatically launch the Automatic Repair tool after repeated restart attempts. In some cases, BitLocker recovery may also be triggered."

Don't trust that Google sign-in — how hackers are stealing passwords in Chrome

Hackers are stealing passwords from Google accounts in Chrome, even from the official Google sign-in page. The method being used is known as the AutoIt Credential Flusher, discovered by researchers at OALabs. This attack traps you on your browser's Google sign-in page, preventing you from leaving while recording your email and password as you log into your Google account.

The attack utilizes "kiosk mode" in Chrome, a restricted full-screen interface that lacks navigation elements like the address bar or buttons. It's mainly used for demonstrations — think of a laptop showcased at Best Buy. In this case, the attack exploits kiosk mode to annoy users enough to divulge their passwords. It also disables some normal commands to exit full-screen mode, such as Esc and F11.

Microsoft’s controversial Recall feature cannot be uninstalled

The Recall saga continues. It has been revealed that Microsoft's contentious AI feature cannot be removed, despite it appearing as an option in the latest version of Windows 11 24H2.

The option to uninstall it was initially noted by Desk Modder within the "Turn Windows features on and off" section of the Control Panel, but Microsoft has now confirmed to The Verge that this was merely a glitch. The statement to The Verge clarified that its presence in that menu is an issue that "will be resolved in a forthcoming update."
