YouTube Music allows you to request your way to improved playlists.
YouTube Music is enhancing its relatively new AI “radio” feature by adding more flexibility. Users can now adjust their “Ask Music” stations to better reflect their preferences. This is just one of the latest additions being rolled out on iOS.
Originally launched last year as a sort of alternative to Spotify’s AI Playlist feature, “Ask Music” enables you to craft customized playlists or “radio” stations by either typing or speaking what you'd like to listen to.
From that input, YouTube Music creates playlists based on mood, genre, activity, or description. You can also save these generated playlists to your library.
Now, there are follow-up suggestions available. For instance, if I use Ask Music and request “fun songs for a Wednesday afternoon,” the follow-up prompts could include options like “only pop stars,” “energetic indie rock,” and others.
At this time, Ask Music is available exclusively to YouTube Music Premium subscribers on Android and iOS in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.
In addition, as reported by 9to5Google, YouTube Music is launching new “My Mix” titles created by Gemini, Google’s AI assistant. These titles are designed to better convey the overall mood of personalized playlists. Previously, these mixes were simply numbered, but with this update, they will feature more descriptive names that indicate the genre and artists in each mix.
“My Mix” is only available to YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers within the U.S. The playlists are generated through algorithms that are customized to each user's music preferences, based on their listening history, liked songs, and overall activity on YouTube Music.
Lastly, YouTube Music is broadening the themes available for custom playlist artwork generated through AI. New categories such as Workout and Instruments have been added to existing themes like Colors, Cycles, Travel, Moods, Nature, Animals, Landscapes, Food and Drinks, and Fantasy.
The U.S. music streaming market is mainly led by Spotify and Apple Music, while Amazon Music and YouTube Music are trailing closely. YouTube Music is particularly becoming more popular due to its unique blend of music and music videos. It is promising to see new features being introduced to the platform.
