Lenovo's innovative approach to foldable screen laptops is quite literally elevated.
Lenovo is pushing the boundaries of computing design by presenting an innovative concept at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. The company has introduced a proof of concept dubbed the ThinkBook Flip AI PC, which serves as a 5-in-1 laptop with five distinct display modes.
Many are familiar with 2-in-1 devices that function as standard clamshell laptops and can pivot on a 360-degree hinge to an easel position for activities like reading and creative tasks. However, the ThinkBook Flip AI PC leverages several of Lenovo's recent advancements, including foldable and rollable technologies. This device features a dual hinge system that enables its five different usage modes, enhancing display optimization, productivity, multitasking, and collaboration.
The device can operate in a standard clamshell mode with a 13.1-inch 16:10 OLED screen. It can also switch to a vertical mode, equipped with an 18.1-inch 2000 x 2664 resolution 3:4 OLED display. The third mode, share mode, extends outwards with a 13.1-inch panel alongside a 12.9-inch outer panel, both maintaining a 16:10 aspect ratio, thus allowing multiple users to interact with the device simultaneously. In reading mode, the outer screen lies flat against the device's cover, featuring a 12.8-inch 2000 x 1258 16:10 display. Finally, in tablet mode, the device closes to reveal just the folded panel, which includes a 12.9-inch 2000 x 1258 16:10 display.
Lenovo stated that the ThinkBook Flip AI PC aims to deliver "AI-enhanced workflows and dynamic work environments" while removing "the need for external monitors."
The hardware specifications for the ThinkBook Flip AI PC include Intel Core Ultra 7 processors, 32GB LPDDR5x memory, and PCIe SSD storage, as well as Thunderbolt 4 ports and a fingerprint reader. It has dimensions of 11.3 x 8.2 x 0.7 inches and weighs 3.1 pounds. This device also belongs to Lenovo's Copilot+PCs, which means it has integrated AI functionalities.
The ThinkBook Flip AI PC draws inspiration from previous concepts that became products, such as the ThinkPad X1 Fold series and the rollable ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, the latter expected to launch in June. While it remains uncertain if this concept will make it to market, Lenovo is known for showcasing innovative ideas. The company revealed a futuristic transparent display laptop at MWC 2024 and introduced a voice-controlled Auto Twist AI PC at IFA 2024.
