Lenovo's display concept transforms your laptop into a portable powerhouse.
Like many remote workers, I appreciate working from home for a fundamental reason: it's not about wearing pajamas (which I do), but about having my dual or triple-screen setup. The number of screens I utilize changes throughout the year, but my monitors are a consistent element.
I also enjoy traveling frequently, though working while on the road presents its own challenges. Laptops like the Yoga Book 9i offer a distinct way to address this, as their two OLED displays facilitate multitasking across multiple windows. However, this setup doesn't work perfectly, particularly since the displays are stacked vertically instead of aligned horizontally.
I've tested numerous top portable monitors, and while they do help in urgent situations, I've been yearning for a more effective setup. At MWC 2025, Lenovo unveiled a potential solution, showcasing one of the more innovative approaches I've encountered. Here’s why I find it appealing and why it could be the perfect answer.
It operates seamlessly, thanks to Magic Bay

If you haven't yet discovered Lenovo's Magic Bay, you're missing a remarkable feature on a laptop that allows you to utilize various accessories to enhance your laptop's functionality. These connect via pogo pins, making it easy to attach or detach them as needed.
Magic Bay is a concept that Lenovo has highlighted at multiple events before. Some previously showcased concepts included an additional screen that provides a 10-inch panel positioned above the laptop display, as well as a ring light, a mirror, and a small fan. Other accessories include aromatherapy diffusers, speakers, and a 4K studio webcam that also integrates two speakers with your laptop.
While Magic Bay is currently limited to a select range of ThinkBook laptops, I wish it would extend to more models, especially as the latest concepts would be perfect for any laptop user.
Two screens or one, your choice

The Magic Bay Dual Display concept aims to provide two 13-inch screens, while the 2nd Display concept offers a singular 8-inch display that attaches to the right side of the laptop screen, ideal for vertical tasks like scrolling through social media or checking notifications.
The Dual Display concept consists of two 13.5-inch screens with a resolution of 2880×1920 pixels, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and covers 100% of the sRGB color spectrum. It weighs 1.2kg and doesn't need a separate power source. The 2nd Display concept features an 8-inch screen with a 9:16 aspect ratio, a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, and a refresh rate of 60Hz, weighing just 0.3 kg, making it one of the lightest secondary screen options available.

A significant issue with current portable monitors is their integration with laptops, but the two Magic Bay concepts address this in two crucial ways. Firstly, all keyboard shortcuts function as intended, making these displays an extension of your laptop. Secondly, and perhaps most impressively, the brightness control of your laptop's display also adjusts the brightness of the secondary screens.
This level of integration is reminiscent of the Apple ecosystem, illustrating how Lenovo's cohesive integration of its accessories and ecosystem allows it to achieve similar results.
Will it ever be a real product?

As you might suspect, this is a conceptual device that may not reach the market. While many of Lenovo's concepts do eventually become commercial products, the Magic Bay concept typically isn’t among them.
It’s been over two years since the Magic Bay concept debuted at CES 2023, with only the 4K Studio webcam making it to market so far. I hope this dual-screen concept launches alongside the webcam, as it would address one of my main concerns with the best portable monitors.
