Nvidia’s RTX 4060 has officially emerged as the most popular graphics card among gamers on Steam, primarily due to its reasonable price and good performance for 1080p gaming. The latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey indicates that the budget-friendly GPU has consistently gained popularity since its mid-2023 release, attracting casual gamers, esports enthusiasts, and those building PCs on a budget.
Previously, older budget GPUs like the GTX 1650 and RTX 3060 led the charts on Steam. However, the RTX 4060 has now taken the lead, achieving an 8.57% market share as of February 2025. Its success can be attributed to its competitive pricing (approximately $300-$350), energy efficiency, and modern gaming capabilities, including DLSS 3 and ray tracing support.
In comparison to the older RTX 3060, the RTX 4060 brings enhancements in ray tracing, DLSS 3 frame generation, and overall efficiency. Although some have criticized its 8GB VRAM and narrower memory bus, it remains a robust option for 1080p gaming, which suits the majority of Steam users’ systems. Currently, the RTX 4060 is priced between $300 and $350, similar to the RTX 3060.

Once a popular choice, the RTX 3060 now commands 6.87% of the market, marking a 1.67% increase from the previous month. The RTX 4060 Ti has also experienced notable growth, rising by 3.11% to a 6.56% share. Likewise, the RTX 4070 recorded a 2.54% increase, bringing its total to 5.43%.
The latest survey results emphasize Nvidia’s dominant position in the PC gaming GPU market, with the company holding almost all the leading spots, while AMD and Intel struggle to make significant inroads in the consumer sector. As Nvidia prepares to launch its RTX 50-series later this year, the affordability and accessibility of the RTX 4060 keep it a viable option for budget-minded gamers.
As new graphics cards enter the market, including the RTX 50-series and AMD’s Radeon 9000 lineup, it will be interesting to see if the RTX 4060 can sustain its top position, or if a different mid-range option will take its place in the upcoming months.

You shouldn’t buy these Nvidia GPUs right now
Purchasing a new GPU in this generation can be a complex landscape filled with graphics cards to avoid. Sometimes the performance is adequate, but the value isn’t; other times, you may find a more powerful option for the same price.
While Nvidia offers some of the highest-quality GPUs, it often faces the challenge of balancing performance and value. Below, I’ll highlight three Nvidia graphics cards that you should reconsider buying at the moment and present their superior alternatives.
RTX 4060 Ti
AMD just did Nvidia a serious favor
AMD and Nvidia are in a constant competition to produce the best graphics card each year. It's clear that both companies strive to excel, but AMD's latest effort appears to be on track for a major misstep.
The new RX 7600 XT seems designed to rectify issues with the original RX 7600, but instead, it turns out to be a scenario that Nvidia might want to thank AMD for.
AMD repeated Nvidia's missteps
Nvidia's RTX 40-series is largely deemed a success, with the inclusion of DLSS 3 enhancing the appeal of lower-tier cards and the flagship RTX 4090 providing a significant generational leap. However, Nvidia made a few errors this generation, and surprisingly, AMD has duplicated both with the RX 7600 XT.
This underrated AMD GPU beats the RTX 4070 Ti Super
The RTX 4070 Ti Super and RX 7900 XT are unlikely contenders when searching for the top graphics card in 2024. Shifted pricing and market positioning have placed these two GPUs in direct competition, both appealing to gamers seeking a premium 4K gaming experience without exceeding $1,000.
Both cards perform well, delivering a smooth frame rate at 4K with all settings maximized. The variations between them are primarily in features and pricing.
