The nostalgia-filled Team Fortress 2 Classic mod is set to be released on Steam.
Valve
Later this year, the Team Fortress 2 Classic mod will be released on Steam, allowing players to revisit the early days of Valve’s class-based shooter, a time when it focused more on gameplay than on cosmetic items. This mod has been available since 2020, receiving regular updates, but it will mark its first official release on Steam.
This announcement comes on the heels of last week's release of the TF2 source code. Valve has a longstanding commitment to supporting the modding community, and the unexpected full release of the source code has excited both players and modders, who are now taking the chance to revitalize the 18-year-old game.
The Team Fortress 2 Classic mod introduces modern quality-of-life enhancements while preserving the essence of the game shortly after its launch. It brings in the Civilian, a new class that nods to the original Team Fortress Classic, along with a variety of suitably themed weapons that enhance the game’s whimsical nature.
Eminoma
Developer Eminoma categorizes the changes into two types: “new-old” features and “new-new” features. The “new-old” features consist of nostalgic elements such as the Civilian class and various prerelease weapons like the Nailgun and Tranquilizer Gun. Eminoma has also implemented a Four-Team mode, allowing yellow and green teams to join red and blue in battle.
The “new-new” features include entirely fresh additions like new game modes. If you grow weary of Capture the Flag, you can try Domination, Territorial Domination, and VIP Race. Players can also expect numerous graphical improvements, unique weapons, and custom maps. Additionally, there will be a chicken, though its significance remains unclear.
By being launched on Steam, Team Fortress 2 Classic will reach a wider audience than ever before. Eminoma has indicated they have more in store: “Expect new weapons, modes, and characters as Team Fortress 2 Classic expands,” they state at the bottom of their Steam page.

Black Ops 6 faces competition from two RPGs on Steam
Even with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 poised to be one of the most significant launches in the franchise's history, two role-playing games are challenging its success.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare's latest RPG and the first Dragon Age title in over a decade, is currently outperforming Black Ops 6 on Steam just one day after its release. As per the Steam top sellers list, The Veilguard is slightly ahead of Black Ops 6's single-player campaign in sales on the platform, followed closely by the MMO Throne and Liberty and Monster Hunter Wilds, an open beta for which launched on Friday.
Valve finally resolved a Team Fortress 2 issue 17 years post-launch
While it may not be a major performance fix, Valve made a notable update in the latest Team Fortress 2 patch: ensuring that Scout wears the correct pants.
Hidden within the patch notes released on Thursday is a bullet point stating, "Fixed BLU Scout using the incorrect team color pants." Although it may appear trivial, Scout on the BLU team has been wearing the wrong pants for 17 years.
Steam Deck 2: everything we know so far
It’s just a question of when we will see the Steam Deck 2, not if. Valve has publicly discussed their intentions for a next-generation Steam Deck multiple times, which isn’t surprising given that the original is widely regarded as the best handheld gaming PC on the market.
Although the Steam Deck 2 is still a few years away, Valve has been hinting about the device for quite some time. Here’s what we currently know about the Steam Deck 2, including potential release dates and specifications.
